Weather Update: Heat wave for some part of the country over Christmas

An extreme heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and Free State. The heat wave is expected to last, at least, until Wednesday.


The South African Weather Service warns of a heat wave with persistently high temperatures coming in Gauteng, western highveld of Mpumalanga, South West bushveld of Limpopo, North West, Free State, northern and north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape until at least Wednesday.

The SAWS has also warned of severe thunderstorms observed just north of Cullinan - 30km east of Tshwane, with large amounts of small hail and strong winds moving north-east later Sunday.

Also, for later Sunday, severe thunderstorms were observed over northern parts of Tshwane, with large amounts of small hail and strong winds.
