Weather Update: Improved temperatures for the weekend

The weekend is predicted to be warm and dry, with cooler weather along parts of the coastline on Saturday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northwestern parts of the Northern Cape and the West Coast District interior of the Western Cape.

Special weather advisories

Extremely hot conditions are expected over the interior of the West Coast District of the Western Cape.

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures for the Matzikama local municipality is expected until Sunday.


The country is expected to experience cold morning conditions with cooler weather across the central and western parts of the Northern Cape as well as the northern border. 

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, with an expected minimum temperature of 2°C.

Temperatures are expected to rise as most of the country is expected to experience warm to hot weather, with very hot weather conditions expected along the West Coast of the Northern Cape and adjacent interior.

The coastline and the highveld region will, however, experience cooler weather.

Springbok and Upington in the Northern Cape are expected to be two of the hottest places, reaching a high of 35°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will reach a high of 28°C and Johannesburg 26°C.

Bloemfontein is expected to reach 29°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 29°C, while Port Elizabeth and Durban are expected to reach a high of 24°C.
