Weather Update: Light rain ahead of cold front

Light rain can be expected in the western parts of the country ahead of the cold front on Friday.

Alerts

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, northwestern parts of the Eastern Cape, extreme northeastern parts of the Western Cape and in the extreme west of the Free State.

Rain

Isolated showers are expected over the western and extreme northeastern parts of the Western Cape, the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, and the western parts of the Eastern Cape.

The rest of the country remains dry.

Temperatures

Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool in most parts of SA, including Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, the North West, the Free State and the southwestern parts of the Northern Cape.

Moderate temperatures are predicted for the rest of the Northern Cape, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.

The coldest place in South Africa is expected to be Sutherland in the Northern Cape, dropping to a near-freezing 2°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be cool across the central and western parts of the country including the Western Cape, the Northern Cape, the Free State and parts of the North West. Cool temperatures are also expected in Gauteng and the western parts of Mpumalanga.

Warm temperatures are predicted for the northern and eastern parts of the country including the northern border, KZN, as well as along the southern coastline include the Eastern Cape.

The hottest place in South Africa will be Skukuza in Mpumalanga, reaching a high of 34°C.

Pretoria is expected to experience a maximum of 25°C, while Johannesburg is expected to have a high of 23°C. A high of 25°C is predicted for Bloemfontein.

Along the coastal regions, Cape Town is expected to reach 17°C, Port Elizabeth 26°C and Durban 29°C.
