Weather Update: Light snowfalls expected for Western Cape, cool weather for most of SA as cold front passes

Most of the country is expected to experience cool to cold weather as a cold front hits land and passes over the country on Tuesday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the north-western interior of KwaZulu-Natal, the north-eastern Free State as well as in places over Mpumalanga.

Gale force south-westerly winds (60-70km) are expected along the coast between Oyster Bay and Algoa Bay in the morning.


Localised flooding is expected between Cape St Francis and Oyster Bay in the afternoon and evening.

Special weather advisories

Light snowfalls are expected over the western mountains of the Western Cape spreading to the western mountains of the Eastern Cape overnight on Monday into the morning.


Passing showers are expected over the Western Cape region and the western half of the Eastern Cape as a cold front makes its way over land.


Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool along the northern border and the East Coast.

Cold weather is expected for the rest of the country with very cold conditions over the central interior.

A few places over the central interior will experience a below-freezing -2°C.

Maximum temperatures remain cold over most of the central and southern parts of the country with very cold conditions expected over the south-western region.

Warmer weather is expected over the northern parts of the highveld, while temperatures are expected to be hot along the northern border.

The warmest place is expected to be Skukuza in Mpumalanga, reaching a high of 37°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 27°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach a maximum of 25°C. Bloemfontein is expected to reach a high of 12°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a maximum of 13°C, Port Elizabeth will reach a high of 15°C and Durban is expected to reach 22°C.
