Weather Update: Showers, thundershowers for most of the south and east of SA

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in most of the eastern and southern parts of the country, and severe thundershowers are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern interior of the Northern Cape.

Watches

Severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of the northern interior of the Eastern Cape.

Special weather advisories

Strong south-westerly interior winds of 50-60km/h are expected over the Hantam, Hoogland and Kha-Ma regions of the Northern Cape, and over the Matzikama and Cederberg regions of the Western Cape on Tuesday.

Rain

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over Gauteng, and in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, except in the Lowveld region and the central and eastern parts of the North West and the Free State.

Isolated afternoon showers can be expected over the southern interior of the Northern Cape, the southern parts of the Eastern Cape, and the northern-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Rain and showers have been predicted for the central and eastern parts of the Western Cape.

Temperatures 

Minimum temperatures are expected to be moderate to warm across the country, expect in the Sutherland region of the Northern Cape where it is expected to be cool.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, with an expected minimum temperature of 7°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be cool along the coastline, the West Coast and adjacent interior, and the extreme western parts of the Northern Cape.

Warm weather is expected across the central and eastern interior of the country, including the central parts of the Northern Cape, the central parts of the Eastern Cape, the Free State, Gauteng, and the south-western parts of Mpumalanga.

Hot weather has been predicted for the rest of the Eastern Cape, the Wild Coast, the northern parts of the Northern Cape, the North West, and parts of the northern border and adjacent interior, while the East Coast and adjacent interior and the north-eastern parts of Limpopo is expected to experience very hot weather conditions.

Skuzuka in Mpumalanga is expected to be one of the hottest places, with a high of 40°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will reach a high of 30°C, while Johannesburg will reach a high of 28°C.

Bloemfontein will reach a high of 33°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 20°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to reach a high of 21°C and Durban a high of 34°C.
