Weather Update: Some relief on the way for 5 provinces as heatwave subsides

A slight drop in temperature is expected in most parts of SA as a heatwave that has plagued five provinces subsides on Thursday.


Fog patches and drizzle can be expected in Mpumalanga and Limpopo and light morning rain can be expected along the south coast of the Eastern Cape.

The rest of the country remains dry.


Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool to cold across most of the country, while very cold conditions are expected south of the escarpment.

Warm conditions have been predicted for most of Limpopo.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to 2°C.

Maximum temperatures remain cool along the coastline and adjacent interior, the southern coast, the Wild Coast and the East Coast.

Warmer conditions have been predicted for most of the country. Hot conditions have been predicted for the north, including the North West, the northern parts of the Northern Cape and the northern parts of Gauteng.

Rustenburg in the North West is expected to be one of the hottest places, with a high of 33°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will reach a high of 32°C while Johannesburg will reach a high of 31°C.

Bloemfontein will reach a high of 28°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 23°C, while Port Elizabeth will reach a high of 20°C, and Durban a high of 22°C.
