Weather Update: Things heat up in the west, fire danger warnings issued

Warmer weather conditions have been predicted for the western parts of the country accompanied by extremely high fire dangers on Friday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme western parts of the Northern Cape and the interior of the West Coast District in the Western Cape.

Special weather advisories

A heat wave, with persistently high temperatures, is expected over the northern coastal areas of the Namakwa District until Saturday.

However, in the eastern Free State, morning frost can be expected.


Warm morning conditions have been predicted for most of SA, except the Little Karoo and the Highveld region, which are expected to experience cooler temperatures. 

A few places are expected to experience a minimum temperature of 2°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be cool along the East Coast and adjacent interior, as well as the southern coastline and the Highveld region.

Warm weather has been predicted for the rest of the country, with hot to very hot conditions along the West Coast and adjacent interior.

Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the hottest places, reaching a high of 37°C.

In Gauteng, Pretoria will reach a high of 26°C and Johannesburg 24°C.

Bloemfontein is expected to reach 25°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 29°C, while Port Elizabeth and Durban are expected to reach a high of 23°C.
