Weather Update: Warm but wet weekend ahead for most of SA

Warm weather and light rain has been predicted for most of SA but thundershowers are expected in the east on Saturday.


Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern interior of the Northern Cape.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over Gauteng, the Western Bushveld of Limpopo, the eastern parts of the North West, the northern parts of the Free State, and the western parts of Mpumalanga.


Severe thundershowers are expected in Gauteng. Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in KwaZulu-Natal but will be scattered in the south.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the western parts of Mpumalanga, the extreme eastern parts of the North West and the Free State.

Isolated evening showers and thundershowers can be expected over the eastern interior of the Western Cape.


Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool to cold along the southern escarpment while the rest of the country is expected to experience warmer morning conditions.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to a near-freezing 1°C.

Maximum temperatures remain cool along most of the eastern and southern parts of the country and cold weather has been predicted for the southern Highveld and the Lesotho Highlands.

Warmer weather has been predicted for the northern and north-western parts of the country, including the West Coast and parts of the Western Cape.

Hot conditions can be expected for the extreme north-western parts of the Northern Cape.

Vredendal in the Western Cape is expected to be one of the hottest places, reaching a high of 33°C.

Pretoria will reach a high of 25°C while Johannesburg and Bloemfontein will each reach a high of 21°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 29°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to have a maximum temperature of 20°C. Durban is expected to reach a high of 18°C.
