Wednesday's weather: A warm day ahead for most of South Africa

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Central Karoo of the Western Cape, central and northern parts of the Eastern Cape and the south-western parts of the Free State on Wednesday.

Severe thunderstorms are also expected over the south-western interior of KwaZulu-Natal and the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, according to the SA Weather Service.

The weather in your region

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy in the east at first, with early morning fog patches. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld.

Expect partly cloudy and warm to hot weather conditions in Limpopo, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south.

The North West will be partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The Free State will be hot in places in the extreme northwest. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers.

As for the Northern Cape, very hot weather conditions can be expected in the north. Otherwise, it will be fine and hot, becoming partly cloudy, with isolated thunderstorms in the central and eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.

The Western Cape will be fine and hot over the eastern interior, where it will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. Otherwise, the province will be cloudy along the entire coastline with morning fog patches along the west coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly along the south coast. Otherwise, it will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.


In the western half of the Eastern Cape, expect fine and warm, but hot to very hot weather conditions over the interior.  It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thunderstorms. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and warm, but hot over the interior. It will become partly cloudy with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly.

Expect morning fog patches over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh east to north-easterly.
