Police in Welkom, Free State, are searching for two men after they robbed two teenage boys of their belongings on Monday.

"Two boys - aged 15 and 16 years - were at the gate of their high school, waiting for the bell to ring, when they were approached by two unknown male suspects, a coloured and an African," spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said in a statement on Wednesday.

The two men demanded their cellphones and, when one of the boys refused, a knife was pulled out by one of the suspects.

"The victim handed over his phone and the suspects ran towards the direction of the railway line," Thakeng said.

Identikits compiled by the police to assist with the investigation revealed that the men are believed to be between the ages of 30 and 35.

"One is light in complexion, medium built and was speaking Afrikaans and English.

"The second one is dark in complexion, muscular and was speaking English," Thakeng added.

Police have since opened a case of robbery.

No arrests have been made yet and the police are appealing to the affected community to assist law enforcement in tracing the suspects.
