Johannesburg - Two West Rand boys, who went missing on Sunday, were found safe seemingly unaware of the fuss they had caused by setting out for an "adventure".

The 3-year-old and 5-year-old boys who are neighbours in Kagiso had their parents in a panic on Sunday when they suddenly disappeared from where they had been playing outside.

Police were contacted and a search was activated with the police's Family and Child Services Unit.

After a worried night, at about 09:24 on Monday, the two boys were taken to Kagiso police station by Thapelo Masela from nearby Swanieville.

He said that his own son had found them wandering around in the area the day before, about 2km from where they had originally disappeared, but the boys could not explain how to get home.

The family put them up for the night, telling police the boys did not seem very concerned about their “adventure”.

On Monday morning neighbours helped Masela organise transport to the police station and the boys were reunited with their relieved mothers.

“The boys were in good health and not at all perturbed by their nightly excursion,” said spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst.

Acting Station Commander for Kagiso, Colonel Thinus Swart personally thanked Masela and the community of Swanieville who ensured the boys' safety.

But he also asked parents to keep an eye on their children when they were playing outside.

“Children can disappear in seconds so please make sure you know their whereabouts at all times.” said Swart.
