Durban – A 43-year-old woman has been arrested after a newborn baby was found dumped at an informal settlement near KwaMashu hostel on Wednesday.

A resident, who asked not to be named, told News24 that she had seen the woman near a local public toilet on Tuesday afternoon.

"She was in labour pain as she was heavily pregnant at the time. We confronted her with other residents when the foetus was found this morning (Wednesday).

"She failed to explain where she was keeping her baby as it was clear to everyone that she was no longer pregnant. We then decided to call police," said the resident.
