Johannesburg - A woman in her fifties was allegedly assaulted at basement parking lot of the Glenvista shopping centre on Saturday, paramedics said.

It is understood that she was approached by suspects who robbed and assaulted her, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.

"It appears the woman was hit over the head, because she sustained head injuries," Bodasing said.

She said when ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the woman in her vehicle talking to police officers. She was taken to hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said assault incidents could only be confirmed once a case has been opened.

"With assault cases, we limit our information until we are done with the investigation," Mofokeng said.

He said police would investigate the incident.
