Pretoria - A woman, who was driving home, used a steering lock to beat up three men who tried to rob her and her 11-year-old daughter, it was reported.

The incident occurred at an intersection in Pretoria West.

Alta de Wet told Rekord Moot that when they had stopped at a red robot on November 5, someone tried to open her passenger door. Two others then surrounded the car and demanded her purse and cellphone.

She tried to reach for her pepper spray and when she couldn't find it, she felt the steering lock nearby, grabbed it and started hitting them.

She told Rekord Moot she hit one of them in the face.

De Wet said hearing her daughter screaming in fear had strengthened her.

She managed to scare off the men.
