Kenton-On-Sea – An unidentified woman's body was recovered after apparently having drowned in the Kariega River near Kenton-On-Sea on Saturday morning.

NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said the NSRI Port Alfred duty crew had been activated early on Saturday morning following reports from the SA Police Services of a suspected drowning in progress at the Kariga river, Kenton-On-Sea.

“The sea rescue craft Rescue 11 Alpha was towed to the scene by our sea rescue vehicle,” he said.

Lambinon said the police, along with a K9 search and rescue squad and Holistic ambulance services also responded.

“On arrival on the scene it was confirmed by Police that a body was reported floating on the Kariga river.”

“We launched our sea rescue craft and we recovered the body of a female from the river. The body of the female was brought to shore aboard our sea rescue craft,” he said.

Lambinon said the body of the unidentified adult female has been taken into the care of police and the forensic pathology services and police had opened an inquest docket.
