A body of an unidentified male was discovered yesterday in Atteridgeville, Pretoria in a decomposing state. The body, which was found dumped near the Gerotek Veld River was discovered by a woman who was gathering firewood, she then immediately alerted authorities.

Upon arrival at the scene police officials discovered the naked body of an African male that was in a state of decomposition to the extent that no distinctive features about the deceased could be identified.

The deceased was found with no clothing or any form of identification with him.

Speaking to DRUM about the state of the body, Spokesperson of Tshwane West Cluster SAPS, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said forensics would have to be used to identify the deceased,

“It is very hard to give any features that could help the public identify the deceased because the state in which the body was in is pretty bad, however, we have forensics working on the case to help,” he explained.

Captain Msimango further shared that the area in which the deceased was found is notoriously known as prostitution territory.

“This area is known as a place where prostitutes conduct their business, it is a very dangerous place as we have had previous cases of people getting robbed and assaulted after they have been there,” he said.

A case of inquest has been opened and police will again return to the area to gather more evidence. There are no suspects that have been linked to the case and police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information to come forward.
