Durban – One person was killed and another injured in an accident on the M4 South Bound after Quality Street on Friday evening. Rescue Care paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics had arrived on the scene to find that two vehicles had collided on the South Bound carriageway, before one vehicle went over the barriers and landed on Landsdowne Road at around 20:30.

He said the vehicle had been extensively damaged and the passenger was found entrapped in the wreckage.

"Paramedics assessed the female, believed to be in her forties, and found that she had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene," he said.

Jamieson said the Durban Fire Department had used the Jaws of Life to cut the woman free.

He said the driver had sustained mild injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required. "At this stage the events leading up to the collision is unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further," he said.
