Johannesburg - A woman was killed in Westonaria in the West of Johannesburg when the vehicle she and two others were travelling in crashed into the side of a truck, leaving the top of the vehicle completely crushed.

The incident happened on Wednesday night, said ER24 paramedics.

"An ambulance crew from ER24 was on their way to a Johannesburg hospital when they came across the collision," said spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

They pulled over and called for further assistance.

"Upon assessment they found that a woman in the vehicle showed no signs of life. There was nothing that they could do for her and she was declared dead," said Vermaak.

"Two men were also found in the vehicle with various injuries. One of them was in a critical condition and the other in a serious condition."

The men were extricated from the vehicle before being transported to the Carletonville and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
