Nigel - In a tragedy that shook the community of Sharon Park, Dunnottar in Nigel, 64-year-old Dianne Lehmann was shot at point blank range by her long-time boyfriend Trevor Allen, 64, on Tuesday.

"The shooting took place between 20:00 and 23:00 at the Azure Pub and Restaurant where Lehmann was a co-owner in the family business," said Dunnottar SAPS spokesperson warrant officer Tommy Tomlinson.

Following the shooting, her daughter contacted her brother and a few close friends of the family raced to the scene.

Upon arrival, Dianne's son contacted both the police and the paramedics. Allen was arrested at the scene.

Lehmann was rushed to hospital where she passed away at approximately 05:00 the following morning.

Allen appeared at the Nigel Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, firing of a weapon in a public place, as well as handling of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

He will remain in custody at Nigel Correctional Services.

The case was postponed to September 15.
