Johannesburg - A woman was left in a critical condition after she allegedly set herself alight in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Tuesday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at a shop on Union Street at around 16:10 on Monday.

Meiring said they found a woman surrounded by the community outside of the shop.

He said it was alleged that the woman poured petrol over her and set herself alight.

She had burn wounds to her head.
She was treated for her injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before she was transported to Leratong Provincial Hospital.
