Cape Town - The Hawks have swooped on a woman in Brakpan who was wanted for sentencing on theft charges in the US, spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said on Saturday.

The 44-year-old woman, identified as Nichole Michelle King, was arrested on Wednesday and now faces an application to have her extradited to the US.

She was supposed to have been sentenced in the US in December 2009 but allegedly skipped the country.

She had been accused of three counts of theft and one of embezzlement of funds.

Authorities in the US asked Interpol for help in June for her arrest and extradition.
She was finally found at the home she rented in Brakpan, on the East Rand, outside Johannesburg.

She has appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court and will stay in custody until her next court appearance on 18 August.
