Durban - A La Lucia woman was shot and wounded during a brazen home invasion on Sunday afternoon.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said reaction officers had rushed to a home in Royan Place shortly after 14:00.

"On arrival it was discovered that an unknown number of suspects gained entry into the home whilst a female homeowner was home alone," he said.

"The armed suspects tied the woman up and confined her to a bedroom and ransacked the premises. Before they could flee the scene, the woman’s husband returned home and a scuffle broke out resulting in the woman sustaining a gunshot wound to her leg," he said.

Van Reenen said that gunmen then fled in their getaway car.

"The vehicle was spotted in the Glen Anil area by members of Marshall Security and the South African Police Services. A high-speed chase ensued and unfortunately the suspects managed to evade arrest and currently remain at large," he said.

Netcare 911 treated the woman who remains in a serious but stable condition in a nearby hospital.
