Bloemfontein – One of the most common neighbourly disagreements could have led to the death of a 42-year-old woman from the Free State.

The woman had last been seen on Monday, November 7 when she confronted her neighbour about a tree hanging into her yard at Bloemanda location.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thandi Mbambo said the woman had told her children she would confront the neighbour on the menial issue, but didn't return home.

Mbambo said the woman's 13-year-old daughter went next door to find her mother but was told she had been accompanied home by the accused the previous night.

"The matter was reported to the police and a missing person docket registered. On investigation into the neighbour's yard, traces of blood and possible human flesh were found as well as a burnt mattress and samples were then referred to the lab for forensic tests."

Mbambo said police searched for the man but could not find him until Friday, November 10.

"He was traced to his hideout in Phase 9, Mangaung. After much interrogation he led the police to the dam where the body was found."

Mbambo said forensic tests would be conducted on the recovered body to determine the cause of death.
