Your weather update: Thundershowers to overshadow Friday's pleasant weather

Thunderstorms will persist in some provinces on Friday, and temperatures continue to hover in the mid-20s as more fine and warm weather awaits the weekend, according to the South African Weather Service.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the extreme western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, the western half of the North West and the central and eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

Gale force south-easterly winds (65-75km/h) are expected offshore between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas on Sunday and Monday.

The weather in your province:

Gauteng will be cloudy and cool but warm in the north with scattered showers and thundershowers in the morning and late afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

In Mpumalanga, it will be cloudy in the east with morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated thundershowers in the east.

Limpopo can expect cloudy conditions in the east with morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the south-west. Isolated thundershowers are expected in the south.

Conditions in the North West will be partly cloudy and hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and southern parts.

In the Free State, it will be partly cloudy and warm but cool in the east with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The Northern Cape will be fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north-east with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to north-westerly.

It will be cloudy and cool with morning fog along the coast in the Western Cape, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with afternoon thunderstorms in the east.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate westerly to north-westerly but fresh to strong south of Table Bay.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and warm becoming cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north. The wind along the coast will be light and variable becoming light south-easterly but south-westerly by evening.

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and warm becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly. 

KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the interior, otherwise cloudy and warm but hot in places in the north, with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the east. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is low.
