Johannesburg - Mark Warona Zinde's R10 000 bail has been revoked by the Brits Magistrate's Court, his lawyer said on Monday.

Francois Joubert told News24 they had not opposed the State's application to have bail revoked following consultation with an independent psychiatrist who had found that Zinde was "not well".

"We've got a report to say that Mark is not well at all and has to be taken back to Weskoppies."

Joubert said according to their psychiatrist, the initial psychiatric report which had found that Mark was fit to stand trial had failed to conduct more detailed tests to thoroughly check his mental state.

"We need a second report reviewing Mark's condition," he said.

The 23-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder of his mother, Hope, earlier this year.

Expected in court for assaulting father

Her body was found in the boot of her Range Rover at her home in the Pecanwood Estate, Hartbeespoort, on June 11 after a family friend went looking for her.

Drugs and a 10kg weight covered in blood were found in the home, police said at the time.

The matter was postponed to January 24, when Joubert would bring an application that Zinde be readmitted to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.

Until then, Zinde would remain in police custody ahead of his appearance in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on December 29 on an assault charge after attacking his father at their Walkerville home on November 6.

Joubert said he was made aware that the charges in that matter would be changing from assault to attempted murder.
