Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Monday congratulated Patrice Talon on his election as president of Benin following elections in that country.

Talon was chosen following the second of presidential elections held on March 20, International Relations and Co-operation Department spokesperson Clayson Monyela said in a statement.

Election observer teams from the African Union and Economic Community of West African States declared the elections peaceful.

Monyela said Zuma would work closely with Talon to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, with a focus on strengthening economic co-operation.
