Residents of Florida, USA, finally began to feel the effects of Hurricane Matthew on Friday as the storm battered the East Coast with devastating winds, rain and storm surges. Watch.WATCH

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma on Saturday expressed his condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Haiti following the destructive Hurricane Matthew.

“We particularly mourn with the people of Haiti as they come to terms with the effects of the devastating storm, which has left behind a trail of destruction and death,” Zuma said.

The hurricane killed hundreds in its path.

While the capital and biggest city, Port-au-Prince, was largely spared, the south suffered devastation.
