Pretoria - Vendors and fast food stalls near the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria are doing booming business during the Oscar Pistorius trial, but car guards are feeling the pinch.

They have been forced to hand over the parking slots they manage in Church Square to the metro police, who have allocated them to the journalists covering the trial.

“I am losing more than R200 a day,” said Michael Molefe, 36, who has been forced to give up 21 parking slots.

“R200 a day is a lot. I have three children and a wife to look after. My children are at school, I can’t afford to lose the money,” said Molefe, who has been a car guard for 14 years.

Enos Napo, 40, also said he was losing about R200 a day, which he needed for his family of five.
