14 NFP members killed in five months

Durban - Fourteen members of the IFP breakaway party, the NFP, have been killed since its formation five months ago, the party said on Monday.

"Since the formation of National Freedom Party (NFP), we have lost 14 members through violence," party president Zanele Magwaza-Msibi told reporters in Durban.

The NFP believed that the killings were not just random acts but well organised and systematic, she said.

The NFP requested a meeting with KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mamunye Ngobeni after concerns were raised by NFP members that only one arrest had been made in connection with the killings.

“The meeting took place today. The aim was to explore ways of expediting the investigations and bring the perpetrators to book,” she said.

NFP had during the meeting requested the police top brass to improve police visibility in hot spots areas. A request for satellite police stations in areas where NFP members had been killed was also made.

Umlazi’s T Section, KwaMashu Hostel and Uthekela were among the areas regarded as hot-spots, Magwaza-Msibi said.

The killings had made some NFP members fear going out of their homes. “We also believe that the killings are an attempt to deter people from joining the NFP. It seems that these killings are orchestrated somewhere. It is a carnage not just killing,” she said.

Four had been killed in Durban, four in Uthekela, four in Gauteng, one in Zululand, one in Pietermaritzburg and one in Ugu district.

Magwaza-Msibi said the NFP believed that the police would give serious consideration to its request. She said her party welcomed Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) president Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s request for discussions to end political violence.

Buthelezi made the call in KwaMashu at the weekend.

    Can only be the ANC.

No Jen, it can only be the IFP. The ANC bankrolled the NFP and have a coalition with them.

Obviously Zanele doesn't like competition, doing away with them systematically.
