Johannesburg - The government intends to have dealt with its housing backlog by 2030, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale said on Thursday.

He said the initiative between private companies and government to build low-cost houses, would be extended to all provinces, SABC news reported.

Sexwale was speaking at the launch of a R460m project to provide houses for Impala Platinum mine workers in Rustenburg, the North West.

The joint venture, between the government and the National Housing Finance Corporation, would erect more than 1 000 houses at Sunrise Park near Rustenburg.
