Durban - ANC delegates in the eThekwini region, the biggest in KwaZulu-Natal, will on Saturday elect new leaders.

The elections are hotly contested with health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and former provincial ANC Youth League leader Nhlakanipho Ntombela fighting for the chairmanship position.

By 10:00 more than 500 delegates had packed the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

"We are impressed with the level of preparation, we believe this conference will proceed smoothly," ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said.

He said delegates were ready to engage politically.

"The conference is not only about elections but also about looking on policy and programmes of the ANC," Zikalala said.

Ten other conferences held in the province had proceeded well.

"This shows a high level of maturity amongst members in the province and also reflects unity in the organisation," Zikalala said.

So did the DA today: Haniff Hoosen is the new KZN chairperson. Why not a story on that too.

      Liz - 2012-03-18 13:41

The story is there it followed a couple of hours later .. I am not sure what point you are trying to make and you omitted that Sizwe Mchunu has a major leadership role.

    "New" leaders with old habits!

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 14:24

Do you know something we don't know Shirley?...change is good, why do you have to be so negative. Too much negativity is not good for you...give these chaps a chance. If they don't deliver, we'll simply go on strike and demand they step down...

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 14:31

Sim I hope you are joking.

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 14:34

Unfortunately you good thing Im not joking. That's how we do things in S.A. If you don't like it, you know where the airport is...

      Shirley - 2012-03-17 14:37

Simnikiwe: Hows that worked for you so far? I still see no service delivery, corruption a plenty and a lot of fat cats> The only people that suffer when protests are held are the protesters!

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 14:44

Well then Sim I would suggest you are an infant. Use democracy the way it was intended rather than striking and burning things down. I like your suggestion that I go to the airport... I would go but it's amusing watching you bozos undo each other with idiocy.

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 14:45

Your logic to is strike and bring the country and the economy to a standstill, to get rid of leaders... that is a very very poor understanding of democracy.

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 14:46

"Simnikiwe: Hows that worked for you so far?" Well I see no whites in power, the ANC still calls the shots HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 14:50

Oh Sim, I see, a troll and one who is preoccupied with colour at that. No more needs to be said.

  • Adam - 2012-03-17 14:42

    New leaders same old sh##

  • Shirley - 2012-03-17 14:55

Simnikewe: The fact that the anc calls the shots is nothing to brag about. If you take pride in corruption, non service delivery, nepostism and all the other crimes ruining this country then that could explain it. Although I suspect a different reason-you are just a plain racist.

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 15:02

Yes I am a racist. I don't care about corruption, non-service delivery, incompetence etc...I just don't wanna see you guys on the gravy train...

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 15:04

Then prepare for a failed country.

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 15:06

I'd rather live in a failed country than live under your rule.

      goyougoodthing - 2012-03-17 15:09

Don't worry, you will get your wish.

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-17 15:12

Of course I will, very soon too.

  • Malizba Liz Mhlanga - 2012-03-17 18:52
