Johannesburg - The ANC Vhembe region in Limpopo elected Tshitereke Matibe as its chairperson at the weekend, a provincial spokesperson said on Monday.

The Vhembe African National Congress conference resolved to support the provincial leadership led by Cassel Mathale in its efforts to build a cohesion, spokesperson Makondelele Mathivha said in a statement.

"Amongst the resolutions adopted, conference delegates declared to support the call for economic freedom; especially through the nationalisation of mines, banks and redistribution of land."

He said the newly elected regional leadership was mandated by provincial leadership to look into disciplinary proceedings against other members who planned to undermine the executive.

Matibe warned members not to use public platforms to air their grievances.

"Issues affecting the alliance cannot be dealt with through the media."
