ANC NEC gives Western Cape more time

Johannesburg - The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) has given the Western Cape more time to complete its provincial nomination process, according to a report on Tuesday.

ANC Western Cape chairperson Marius Fransman told The New Age that the NEC had given the provincial leadership a deadline of Wednesday, after it failed to meet the Friday deadline.

"I don't know when the conference will take place but the latest will be either today [Tuesday] or tomorrow [Wednesday]. And we hope it will be successful this time," he told the newspaper.

The NEC was scheduled to brief the media on Tuesday on its meeting on Monday, where it was to discuss how to handle two provinces - Western Cape and Limpopo - missing their deadlines.

The New Age, quoting unnamed sources, said it understood that Limpopo had also been given an extension.

The Limpopo ANC had to cancel its conference on Friday night when a group of "violent hooligans" disrupted proceedings, forcing delegates to flee the venue, provincial spokesperson Makonde Mathivha said at the time.

He claimed the event was disrupted by a group wearing t-shirts with President Jacob Zuma's face printed on them.

The ANC in the Western Cape adjourned its event early on Saturday morning without endorsing candidates because of logistical delays, including the verification of branch delegates.

The conference reconvened at 21:0 on Saturday night, but failed again.

And this shambolic party is meant to be running the country, when it can't even get its internal processes right! Ruining, more like it.

This is a disgrace, and this people are people who will most probably decide for us who is going to be our president. What do you mean by 'Africans' Shaun?

They can't even run their own party adequately, yet they proclaim to run a country successfully!

As long as the outcome is support for President Zuma they will always be given more time, even up to the last day before the conference if needs be! We also know that Marius Fransman ( who should be encouraging his people not to be over-concentrated in the WC) has been given the mandate to count the nominations until Zuma wins, like what they did in other provinces. The will of the branches will be tested on the floor and via provincial strong-man!

      phumi.ntlabati - 2012-12-04 08:43

not via provincial strong man. Meant to say!

  • altus.kirsten - 2012-12-04 08:44

Marius should have done his work rather than mobilizing strikes! Useless!

Even in following the wisest person and most trusted one at that, common sence has it that at an interval or poiont, it is important for one to pause for a recoint; eithe for ones followership or for the action or the way one is being led. ANC make an evaluation of your activities and for a momnet lets see you show concern for the entire nation and not PARTY.

      rob.gunning.1 - 2012-12-04 10:38

@ mzo.bhane - The only racist comment I see here is yours. My guess is that you are in your late 30's and are part of the old way. We don't need people like you. Grow up pompie.

      clive.kihn - 2012-12-04 11:15

Mzo: one day you and your fellow-ANCs will wake up to the fact that your party is failing miserably, and you will vote them out, just like the Zambians did with KK, the Kenyans with Moi, and the Zims with Mad Bob if he hadn't stolen at least two elections. Wake up, pal.
