ANC North West 'shocked' by court case

2012-12-12 09:09

Johannesburg - The ANC in the North West said on Wednesday it was “shocked” that a group of its members had approached the province’s high court in Mafikeng to have its delegation to Mangaung conference interdicted.

"The provincial leadership notes that there are continued efforts aimed at discrediting the outcomes of the nomination conference and possible outcome of our national conference," said spokesperson Kenny Morolong.

The group applied for an order to interdict the registration of delegates to the party's elective conference in Mangaung next week.

The case was postponed to Thursday.

The provincial conference chose President Jacob Zuma as its preferred nominee for president at the party's upcoming elective conference in Mangaung.

The conference was marred by divisions over who the province should nominate for president.

Provincial chairperson Supra Mahumapelo led a faction campaigning for a second term for Zuma.

Provincial secretary Kabelo Mataboge led a faction calling for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to be nominated for president.

Mataboge was shot at while opening the gate to his home in Mmabatho last month, but was not wounded.

Morolong said the party would defend the outcome of its nomination conference.

"The ANC will commence a process to verify membership of those who brought this matter before court and those who are confirmed as members will face appropriate action as prescribed in our Constitution."

      kalabafazi - 2012-12-12 09:44

And they say the media is to blame for spreading panic amongst the people before Manguang. There is another article where zuma states the the anc in not about to implode. No Mr Prezzie it's about to EXPLODE!!!!

      bob.mcmillen.564 - 2012-12-12 09:56

The pigs are fighting at the trough, brilliant, that's what we want, keep that infighting going, all the time the DA gets stronger and gains more support.

They only open their mouths to eat or lie.

      gideon.walt - 2012-12-12 10:58

This whole thing has theoretically the potential of claiming 30-40 percent of the voters for the ANC, just depends on the extent to which the unhappy ANC members will excercise their dissatisfaction.

      christoffvstaden - 2012-12-12 11:13

Love it! Love seeing how scattered they've become - like a ship without a captain heading for the rocks! Spectacular!

  • shimeAschendorf - 2012-12-12 09:28

Good for you Mataboge, that's your democratic rights and you must not be intimated by the mother body, NEC influenced the outcome of that conference, they want Zuma to lead the party by all means, they know that under Zuma, hey can be tenders and keep their job.

Why the "shock"? The complainants have a prima facie case of interference and vote-rigging, apparently by minister Mthethwa. The "shock" is probably that the shenanigans will be aired in court.

      russelllundie - 2012-12-12 11:13

I also do not understand why the `Shock`, This is the ANC we are talking about after all. Can anyone name something that the ANC has done in the last 10 years that was for the betterment of South Africa and not just in their own self interests?

      phaldiemeyer - 2012-12-12 12:51

@russel: I also despise them but they did make retrovirals available to more people living with aids than when denialist Mbeki was in charge...but that's the only thing I can think of that's worth mentioning!

      hein.huyser - 2012-12-12 13:20

phaldie, they were forced to make the medicine available, now the USA is picking up that tab

  • mike.clery - 2012-12-12 10:18

Under the Zuma (and the rest of the "Polokwane pirates") administration, South Africa has become more divided and directionless than at any time in its history. Even under the Nationalists, the majority of the population was united in its goal to end minority rule. Now we have fractious groups fighting for the spoils of power.

  • ponkie.diel.9 - 2012-12-12 10:24

Greed will always rot the brain. The cANCer is too busy consuming itself, as well as the taxpayers money to think for itself.

A bunch of arrogant bullies that bully the same voters that put them in power in the first place....... Now the bullies are bullying themselves....... I love every minute of it because post Mangaung, this organisation will never be the same again.......

Let the ruling party once and for all expell those who are causing chaos in their party, this fightings for positions are taking this country back in terms of governance and political stability and as such investors will go away as they will not invest in a country that they are not certain of their properties if will be protected once they invest in this country, people goes to court because they want their candidate to be elected and after get fat posts within the government and nothing else. AWAY WITH POLITICS OF THE STOMUCH!!!

  • russelllundie - 2012-12-12 11:05

      russelllundie - 2012-12-12 11:18

I am always amused when a group of corrupt and devious people get their noses out of joint when they find out that some of their own people are more corrupt and devious than they are. It always seems to take them by surprise too.

  • flysouth - 2012-12-12 11:26

The ANC is a collapsing organisation, riven with internal factions all fighting to get their snouts in the pig-trough. I expect huge ructions at this conference at Mangaung, including violence and possibly killing. Bring it on! The more this occurs the sooner the ANC will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

      lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-12 13:03

I would prefer it if nobody got killled, but yes it should be fun to see the little piggies in action!

  • chris.khanye - 2012-12-12 11:30

Wha's shocking the North West PEC? The scramble for power in the ANC is deadly, but at least these comrades are sober enough to know where the doors of a court are. Politics of the stomach is what drives most members of the ANC today and this isn't shocking nor surprising any more - it's a norm comrades!

  • pieriewaaier.zooms - 2012-12-12 11:31

Guys, you don't get it, right? The anc is a 'democratic' movement and they tolerate a huge diversity of opinions. I mean, at the start of the Malema saga, even Zuma said so and the gnome followed suit. Only one that differed, was old Blade - he's a commie after all. But even Blade's different opinion was explained as part of the anc's democracy. So, what seems to us to be a party is disarray & disunity is in fact, just democracy at play in the anc. 'Democratic Unity in Disunity', or something like that...I think but WTF: Blah blah blah...'We are shocked when democracy causes people to think they may think for themselves".

Shame news24 at it again. My post got deleted. The anc will implode further once Madiba passes away as he is the glue that is keeping the anc in power. Only because of greed that we hear about everyday. What is wrong with this oppinion. Are another SABC?

  • gladness - 2012-12-12 11:43

  • john.knipe.10 - 2012-12-12 13:12

That's the Anc's official line The "people" realize that if you can get enough people to back you you can serve your own self interest. They also want to be part of the gravy train.

  • annie.israel.50 - 2012-12-12 14:12

The Anc is getting more and more devided and at one point it is going to EXPLODE - A special enquiry should be set up ASAP so that all of them face charges. ALL FOUND QUILTY AND THROW THEM IN JAIL WITHOUT PAROLE AND THROW THE KEY AWAY!!! The anc should look at two small countries - Togo and Ghana who are doing very well - IF THEY CAN DO IT THEN SA CAN ASWELL

The judges in the constitutional court must be cautious now because they will find themselves trapped into party politics than resolving problems. If people see the courts as the best route to use to achieve their political goals, then the courts are in serious attack.
