ANC Tshwane's take two

Pretoria - ANC members in the Tshwane region elected two sets of leaders at two separate conferences over the weekend.

The Gauteng ANC dismissed the one meeting as a "scam", while a member of the other group said they were unhappy with various matters the ANC had failed to address.

One group, representing about 89 branches, held their 8th ANC Tshwane regional conference at the St George Hotel and Conference Centre. Elected as chairperson Saturday night was Kgosientso Ramokgopa, the current mayor of Tshwane.

Mapiti Matsema was elected deputy chair, Paul Mojapela secretary, Sibongile Moselelane deputy secretary and George Matjila treasurer.

The elections came about as a result of the merger of the Tshwane and Metsweding regions. The new Tshwane region is now the third largest ANC region in the country. The two municipalities were merged following the May local government elections.

The second "parallel conference" was held at the Justice College and represented about 46 branches, according to newly-elected secretary Joel Mphahla, a member of the party's Centurion branch. At this event Mafika Mahlangu was elected chairperson.

Dingiswayo Santos Matshika was elected deputy chair, Mphahla secretary, Thapelo Rantho deputy secretary and Heminah Tebogo Monaanyane treasurer.

According to Mphahla a total of 268 people attended this election.

Provincial ANC blamed

Mphahla said the branches held their own conference after various problems, such as party members not being allowed to vote, or being barred from meetings, were not addressed by the provincial ANC.

"We took our problems to the province, where branches were given a chance to voice concerns, but province never responded."

The ANC's provincial executive committee spokesperson Nkenke Kekana said he was "puzzled" at a number of statements issued on behalf of the ANC in the region.

These announced the dissolution of the ANC Tshwane provincial council, and an e-mail listing the leaders elected at the Justice College conference.

"We are puzzled like all of you. It is a scam. We will not hesitate to take action against a member for spreading disinformation."

"The two municipalities were merged following the May local government elections" the Western Cape will have to "merge" with the dysfunctional Eastern Cape in order to try and steal the province

      Steve Wonderboy - 2011-10-02 20:48

That would be a massive mistake on the ANC's part. The DA is rapidly gaining ground in that province.

The ANC is dragging the good name of many good, intelligent and progressive people down into the mud with it. They have effectively 'lost the signal' and even their test pattern is murky. The ANC is an organisation at war with itself, it has no discernable leadership other than what you would find a dime a dozen in a village full of idiots at the end of nowhere, and where have their men gone, their real men - nary a one in sight.

89 branches agreed that the carvery was better at the St George....

Awesome how the ANC is all about egos. Everybody wants to be in power, no matter how its affects the electorate. I know, politics is all about egos but due to apartheid the previously disadvantaged had their egos seriously damaged and now they all have to rebuild their ego at all cost. The only person who lost his ego was Mandela. That is what makes him so great. He was level headed and the outcome of his people was more important than his ego.
