ANC announces leadership nominations

2012-12-17 13:52

Bloemfontein - The ANC announced on Monday that Jacob Zuma and Kgalema Motlanthe are in the running for the position of president of the ANC.

Electoral agency representative Thabile Thomas announced at the ANC's national elective conference that nominations were received for Motlanthe and Zuma.

There were originally five candidates nominated for the position of deputy president. Baleka Mbete declined nomination, as did Motlanthe, leaving Mathews Phosa, Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale running for the position.

Baleka Mbete and Thandi Modise were nominated for the position of chairperson, while Gwede Mantashe and Fikile Mbalula were nominated for secretary general. There was only one nomination for deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte, which means there will be no voting for this position.

Paul Mashatile and Zweli Mkhize are in the running for the position of treasurer general, after Tokyo Sexwale and Lindiwe Sisulu declined nominations for this position.

There are 4 075 voting delegates.

The conference has been adjourned for lunch, and for voting.

Bye bye KM, close but no cigar. Gone like a juju. So sad, you had potential. Need singing and dancing lessons not to mention knowing how to throw a spear, if you know what I mean.

  • J.Stephen.Whiteley - 2012-12-17 14:04

Good. That means Motlanthe is going for broke.

  • KyleVDMerwe7 - 2012-12-17 14:05

I think a few media bosses are praying for something drastic to happen. The way they built this whole thing up...blood will be spilt, chairs thrown at each other, etc etc. Kinda feel sorry for them.

  • lungani.malevu - 2012-12-17 14:16

Nice to see Baleka and Kgalema declined. I know those money/vote buyers(Tokyo and Matthews) will never quit as they can see the writings on the wall for their Gauteng Plot Group getting the BOOT very soon. I CANNOT wait for GSSC, Boksburg and Alexander MAFIAS removed from ANC in Gauteng. Its time Gauteng government departments allowed to controlled themselves instaed of the HIDDEN money making GSSC inside GDF that continues controlling & dictating all Information Technology issues for other independent Gauteng government deartments. We have to speak to & get internet/WAN information from GSSC/GDF instead of talking directly to Telkom ourselves for our own information. Very rediculous state of affairs; yet Trevor Manual never allowed GSSC to control Treasury/GDF when he was minister for Finance as he insist his department is independent and does not account to another indepenedent department and Mr Paul Magashule could never stopoped Trevor Manual; except he bullied all other Gauteng (GPG) departments to report and depends on his I.T centric GSSC. Let employed staff in other departments like education also start to think and be responsible for themselves.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-17 19:17

Ramongana, nawe Njomane, are you high from inhaling too much of Zuma's incence? If not, what has he done other than steal public funds, sing, dance and read prepared speeches?

  • thabo.modiba.7 - 2012-12-17 14:21

If Zuma wins ANC will feel the heat in 2014. If Motlanthe wins devisions deepen, real dilema.

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2012-12-17 14:34

And what are you, a sangoma or something, when Mandela took over we were told the country was gonna be chaos, when Mbeki took over we were told it was the end for the country as no one was as capable as Mandela, when Mbeki was recalled we were told that this time around the ANC was finished, in all these instances the ANC have always disappointed people like you, I am not saying the leadership that will be elected will be the best for the country but they are all capable to use the talent in the party, and will again prove many wrong in 2014

      thabo.modiba.7 - 2012-12-17 14:44

President Jacob Zuma's national approval level is 52%, while Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe's is at 70%, according to a survey released on Monday.

      trevor.dean.10 - 2012-12-17 16:00

@rooster it is possible that 22% approved of both of them! Strange but true.

  • tatana.mhlongo - 2012-12-17 14:22
