ANC gets new integrity commission

2012-12-20 07:23

Bloemfontein - The ANC has announced a new integrity commission that will have power to dismiss any member, including public servants, for corruption.

The ANC’s commission on organisational renewal discussed matters ranging from disciplinary issues to sanctions to illiteracy within local, provincial and national government at the party’s Mangaung conference.

The chair of the organisational renewal commission, David Makhura, said the Renewal Integrity Commission will also be a first stop at both national and provincial levels that will determine which applicant can get ANC membership by evaluating new members.

The commission has also suggested that every ANC office bearer declare their financial interests to the ANC within three months of taking office.

The integrity commission would be the first port of call for all allegations of corruption against any member. It will be established within three months of the election of the party's new executive committee.

“The commission will have very strict criteria for membership. The commission will constituted by veterans.

“Commissions (at national and provincial level) will be able to hold disciplinary hearings but we hope members will make it easy for the ANC by resigning or stepping aside if there are serious allegations of corruption. The ANC wants to keep members accountable to the laws of the land. We want help to nip this corruption in the bud,” said Makhura.

It starts from the Top... Doesnt help voting in a corrupt president and expects others not to be corrupt...

Agreed Tyrone, which is why it rings so hollow and is dead in the water.

I give this little commission 6 months until it too is implicated in corruption

What about the dismisal of any government employee for laziness, incompetence or a bad attitude towards tax-paying customers?

      Willie - 2012-12-20 08:01

Start by firing Zuma--to test the credibility and intergrity of the commission

      fred.murgatroyd - 2012-12-20 08:10

Typical ANC talk, talk, talk, and we will see no action, Corruption will still reign supreme, and will still be the criteria for cadres to be given the top jobs.

      debduplessis - 2012-12-20 08:24

Just window dressing ... start with the most corrupt i.e. JZ!

      Paddy - 2012-12-20 08:25

Agree wholeheartedly. One question though. Do they have anyone honest enough to serve on the committee?

      beverly.young3 - 2012-12-20 08:41

LOL!! yeah my thoughts exactly, here I was pre-celebrating, thinking, oh goodie, Zuma will be gone by Easter? They will prolly have a 'means test' and exclude previous crimes? ho ho ho...

      daleinn - 2012-12-20 09:11

I thought people get arrested and locked up for being found guilty of stealing , fraud , corruption ,etc..... and not just dismissed!!! Sounds like a lenient integrity commission..

      francois.smith.7 - 2012-12-20 09:20

What happened to the old integrity commission?

      lobert.mhlanga - 2013-01-15 07:59

Tyrone you are very stupid, naive in saying JZ is corrupt. A person is innocent untill proven guilty. You are gullible, you read and believe what is in the papers. You comments show that you have no regard for the respect of a person.

  • Ubabamkhulu - 2012-12-20 07:28

Julius Malema has been exposed as the FALSE PROPHET of the year. He proclaimed that he would be back after Mangaung! He stated that Zuma will not survive Mangaung! He was 100% convinced that the Mines would be Nationalized after Mangaung! He also said that he will not be convicted on Fraud and Money Laundering charges! With the status of FALSE PROPHET now, I wonder who is going to believe him ever again. Go you FALSE PROPHET, Go! Your followers must all be non-believers.

      marina.poniatowska - 2012-12-20 07:46

If you perceive Malema to be a prophet, dude, you have a serious problem.

      lobert.mhlanga - 2013-01-15 08:03

@Adrian.snyman. You are a racist. JZ will be guilty once the court of law has said so. Until then hands off. The tea girl needs to botox just like the madam.

  • denis.delaport - 2012-12-20 07:30

Sure, directed only at the cadres that do not fall in line.

Exactly, this is so blatantly false and stupid, who will buy this?

  • jbooyse - 2012-12-20 07:31

Really ??? Only now ??? Should have been a part of the "rulling party" from when it was formed !!!

  • rowan.goss - 2012-12-20 07:32

What about current ANC leadership? Will the Integrity Commission get rid of Zuma and his friends? Probably just going to be a pretty facade to restore public support for the ANC but with no teeth to cull current dead weight.

      ian.robertreid - 2012-12-20 07:35

      Well said! IRR

      chris.stuart.332 - 2012-12-20 08:01

All just talk to make the stupid masses, which continue to vote cANCer, vote again for them.

  • flysouth - 2012-12-20 07:33

So when will the labour laws be changed so that employers can also dismiss wrong-doers, just as the ANC wants to?

      Lyndatjie - 2012-12-20 07:55

HUH? Of course Labour Law allows for that... you obviously just don't understand the processes to follow.... ai

  • rikhoula.joy - 2012-12-20 07:33

Well great idea if it applies to everyone, pLz do the right thing all of you leaders

  • Lyndatjie - 2012-12-20 07:34

Now THIS is good news! I just hope that this is not a smokescreen to appease the public that SOMETHING is indeed being done. But if this is truly done with the right intentions - then I'm now ecstatic!

  • daniel.motlhatlhedi - 2012-12-20 07:37

ANC established lots of things that they fail to impliment because they are not practical or they are dont apply to certain members. Lets wait and see how will this commision be of use by/to the leadership.

  • ian.robertreid - 2012-12-20 07:37

    Rout them out!! IRR

  • peter.j.cock - 2012-12-20 07:39

Yes sure. There are so many corrupt people in the ANc that this "committee" will NEVER finalise anything. Who is to say they they themselves are not corrupt? They will obviously not find anybody guilty because they will be bribed. No different to the people who want this committee. Just another excuse to create another committee so that those special people gan get paid even more.

  • difa.mashwama - 2012-12-20 07:39

good news if is not just a talk,

      emmett.wesleygarrett - 2012-12-20 07:42

It's always just talk when it comes to politics, but let's wait and see...

Its all a FALLACY!!!They all serve under the polygamous corruptor!!

  • noeln.petzer - 2012-12-20 07:41

Sounds like a 'politburo' committee to smoke out anyone who does not tow the party line ... wonder if there will be gulags in the Karoo?

  • taariq.halim - 2012-12-20 07:44

    Start with Zuma.

  • reine.marais - 2012-12-20 07:45

This might be a genuine effort to turn things around on the fraud and corruption score. Yes, it may be late, but let's at least give it a chance before dissing it out of hand.

  • marina.poniatowska - 2012-12-20 07:46

    Does this include Zuma?

  • hudayfah.newman - 2012-12-20 07:47

Soon there will be a need for an integrity commission for the integrity commission.

They are really making FOOLS of themselves, other than that I am pretty much speechless. Words fail me when it comes to the way I feel about cANCer

  • chris.stuart.332 - 2012-12-20 07:59

Oh please, Zuma is corrupt and now they want a "integrity commission" The first thing that this commission must do is to jail Zuma! How can you justify dismissing a public servant for taking a bribe for instance, but zuma is stealling millions to build his house?

  • ericanbarker - 2012-12-20 08:04

ANC and integrity in one sentence, a bit of an oxymoron if you ask me......

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-20 10:01

Took the words out of my mouth...

  • brett.misselhorn - 2012-12-20 08:06

Excellent! Only took 18 years to make "official." Sorry to those who are still waiting for houses and education though, that's more than just theoretical commission to make the masses happy.

  • kathleencatto.turner - 2012-12-20 08:10

Well, first we would have to know and understand the ANC's interpretation of the english word "corruption" would'nt we? Their understanding of english words are often different to the norm!!!

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-12-20 09:02

Their understanding of "integrity" is also unfamiliar.

  • kathleencatto.turner - 2012-12-20 08:11

Well, first we would have to get an interpretation by the ANC of the word "corruption" as they very often seem to have some other understanding of english words.

  • sagren.narain - 2012-12-20 08:12

ok please - give me a break. The corrupt check up on the corrupt!!!! These ar5h0les think that we are all stupid. Oh wait, all they need is for 50% of the populus to be idiots - that they have.

  • aroka.murombe - 2012-12-20 08:13

This is a joke they should start whit zuma if this is to work.

  • theo.martinez.980 - 2012-12-20 08:15

....and they will gather in the bunker in Nkandla, burn the spy-tapes, encrypt the Swiss bank accounts and start digging for dirt on Ramaphosa in the name of "integrity"

  • marilyn.docherty.9 - 2012-12-20 08:15

"The ANC wants to keep members accountable to the laws ofthe land.We want to nip this corruption in the bud". I suggest you begin at the very TOP OF THE ANC!!!!!!

  • clive.kihn - 2012-12-20 08:16

Seeing is believing, so let them show their bona fides by starting with their president, who, apart from being corrupt, is incompetent as well.

  • debduplessis - 2012-12-20 08:23

Just window dressing ... start with the most corrupt i.e. JZ!

  • gaff.harrison - 2012-12-20 08:31

This commission is going to be frikkin' busy if that's the case! It will be busy 24 hours a day! As for nipping corruption in the bud, that ship sailed years ago! WTF!

  • lex.holmes2 - 2012-12-20 08:35

They are going to be busy and suggest they prioritize their case load starting with Zuma.

  • pieter.pretorius.106 - 2012-12-20 08:39

Good grief, what is the integrity committee gona do, look for the meaning of the word integrity and try to explain it to the big boss. If your big boss, the president of the country do not even have aq hint of integrity how the hell do you want to enforce it on others? What a joke!

  • gary.desousa.5 - 2012-12-20 08:40

So now if your a civil servant and you uncover corruption you must report it to this commission?? What a wonderful way of keeping it in the party to cover up. The line of reporting should be straight to the press, then the police .

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-20 09:55

      Amen to that...

  • riaan.mastenbroek - 2012-12-20 08:41

    Good, now start with JZ.

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-12-20 08:42

For this to work the head of the commission would need to be someone outside of the anc but with powers to implement at the highest level. I propose Julian Assange (Wikileaks)

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-12-20 09:07

      I second!

      nic.nomicos.3 - 2012-12-20 09:54

      I third....

    LOL just LOL

  • joachim.bernstein - 2012-12-20 08:43

      Fundukululukunjakunne Why Cano - 2012-12-20 08:51

oh yeah 700 counts + plus others this really would prove the integrity of the commission of integrity

  • alican.francem - 2012-12-20 08:46

Next three years we will need two commissions again because this one would have been ineffective

  • peter.jordaan.5 - 2012-12-20 08:47

Whoppeee! Start with zuma ... W

  • Lethabo - 2012-12-20 08:49

i hope this commision will work n i pray to god that it works.. ........start with zuma please

  • firmsly.kabelo - 2012-12-20 08:50

Will Zuma resign? I mean the man has more than 700 counts of corruption against him that are hanging around his head. Is this intergrity commitee having enough tooth to rein-in the sitting President? Lets not forget Makhura is just the SG of Gauteng.

  • angela.nair.3 - 2012-12-20 08:51

They need to know the meaning of integrity and how to spell it! Integrity (noun) Wholeness, entirety, soundness, uprightness, honesty - the Concise Oxford Dictionary! Now for them to understand that each word has a meaning all of its own. The only wholeness is the ANC, They have plundered our country of its entire coffers, they are not sound of mind, No uprightness and honesty? No that meaning defies their logic!

  • beata.rossudowski - 2012-12-20 08:51

I would like to apply for this position.

  • thethird.wors - 2012-12-20 08:53

That's a bit like the Nazis having a policy called "gentle care" pertaining to POWs.

  • talana.malherbe - 2012-12-20 08:54

Hope this is not just another job creation for friends or that the commission will be unermined by the top people. Please start at the top with the existing top 6 and work your way down.
