ANC congratulates Zuma on 70th birthday

2012-04-12 12:24

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma's 70th birthday is a milestone that South Africans should be proud of, the ANC Women's League said on Thursday.

"Comrade Jacob Zuma has dedicated most of his 70 years to the African National Congress and to the people of South Africa and for that we thank him," it said in a statement.

"Not many can boast a track record of selfless service to the struggle and to the country as the president can." The women's league said Zuma had contributed to the success of the ANC over its 100 years of existence.

Zuma turned 70 on Thursday.

He also received "proud" wishes from the ANC in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal.

"We are proud of the contribution comrade Zuma made during the painful liberation struggle, which saw him being separated from his family for years," said KwaZulu-Natal ANC spokesperson Sihle Zikalala.

"The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal also salutes president Zuma for the role he continues to play in our organisation and as the head of government in South Africa."

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said Zuma would settle for nothing less than the total emancipation of all South Africans.

"As a leader, he continues to inspire our people and give hope of a better tomorrow. We want to salute him for having spent the better years of his selfless life in the service of the people of South Africa."

- Send us your birthday wishes for Jacob Zuma.

khula msholoz ube yiqhawe ungakhokhobi nkabi yam unkulunkulu akubusise amen

      Rob - 2012-04-12 12:56

I really hope no one spills a drink on him during the celebrations. Nice touch if he invited Peens to his " party. "

      Lerato - 2012-04-12 15:46

Only in SA where you get to spill your drink on the President and get away with it, try it to the US President and see what they will do to you. Zuma is the elected President of SA so he deserves that respect and security

      Stirrer - 2012-04-12 16:01

@Lerato - A title, position or wealth does not guarantee respect. Respect has to be earned. What has JZ done to earn respect?

      Rob - 2012-04-12 16:06

Lerato. It's only because Peens is White that he was considered a " threat " to national security. If that had been some little black tsotsi, nothing would have happened & Zuma would have probably offered to buy him a drink. So dont talk nonsense. Dont EVER try to compare American or Western Nation presidents to Zuma. These men are educated & are generally voted in by educated voters.

      Lerato - 2012-04-12 16:32

@Stirrer we respect the office, that is the postion he holds - he is the President of SA if you don't like it, tough luck!! @Rob I don't care about the colour of the person who spilled the drink that's wrong. I will associate Zuma with the western powers, you know why, because they invite him, and even give him awards. You Rob have you been invited even to Mazibuko's house, I guess no

      Kala - 2012-04-12 17:27

Seems like he's got enough attention and wishes already so thankfully I don't have to include mine.

  • Glyn - 2012-04-12 12:31

News on Cape Talk Radio .... Zuma turns 70 today .... Zuma will be hard at work, in his office ... in Luthuli House! This man should be hard at work in the service of all South Africans in the Union Buildings! He is a PUBLIC SERVANT! He should NOT be hard at work for the anc.

  • Morama - 2012-04-12 12:33

More than 1 million spent already from tax payers hard earned....normal ANC practise!!!

  • Graham - 2012-04-12 12:34

      Farmworker - 2012-04-12 13:46

@Koos HAHAHAHA thus rather a disingenuous and mischievous comment. How can someone still growing up, I would let most steal the oldness from me anytime

  • Kobus - 2012-04-12 12:37

    Time to retire.

  • Peter - 2012-04-12 12:38

As he celebrate with the most expensive champaigne, another african child will sleep with hunger tonight. Shame on him and his followers.

  • vuyo.zuccherro.gqwaru - 2012-04-12 12:42

Zuma's 70th birthday is a milestone that South Africans should be proud of, why would we be proud of that? It's his birthday, it has absolutely nothing to do with us. If anything, we should be ashamed to call him our president, for he has managed to make us a laughing stock in the eyes of the international community, has made a mockery of the South African constitution all in a bid to fulfil personal agenda. So pardon me if I'm not feeling celebratory on his birthday.

      Lerato - 2012-04-12 16:02

Come on now, we can all have problems with the guy but let's be realistic. What do you mean he has made us a laughing stock? Under this man's leadership the economy has defied all odds as we expected a nose dive considering what's happening in Europe. Let's not be hatters, if you think Zuma is a joke wait till Julius and crew have their way boot him out and replace him with their puppet. This man is doing well

      Patiwe - 2012-04-12 16:20

@Lerato the groundwork was there already, he has done nothing so far other than appeasing his different constituencies in the alliance. The less said about his attitude on constitution the better. Yes we are a loughing stock in the world and even in Africa compared to the real statesman we once had in Thabo Mbeki.

  • Shanelle - 2012-04-12 12:54

Oh, now I get it! No wonder he had the audacity to say "This country is safe", senility is creeping in. Happy Birthday anyway Mr President.

      Michil - 2012-04-12 13:39

      Mmmmmm give him something

  • - 2012-04-12 12:54

The next one you are celebrating in jail, just you won't only be blowing candles out...

  • Judith - 2012-04-12 12:59

Selfless - really? He lives in a fortified series of dwellings and is busy putting more fortifications into Nkandla at our expense. No he is self absorbed and selfish in the extreme

  • Lance - 2012-04-12 13:03

These people are delusional. If he was separated from his family for many years how the h**l did he father 20 children - immaculate conception? It is not something to be proud of when you will be known forever as a corrupt showerhead dictator, a liar, a thief, an inept excuse of a man. I wouldn't even call you a man, more like a mouse.

  • Rob - 2012-04-12 14:23

I am so ashamed to have this man as my countries president, and I am equally ashamed of the idiots that would vote a man of this calibre into highest office with the record that he has. This is the type of mentality we have to live with, day in & day out. There are a good few ( Black ) candidetes that could be President, yet they chose Zuma. Very sad.

  • IcemanGP - 2012-04-12 16:49

Guess this is gonna cost the country a pretty packet. Must be nice to be in Gov'
