ANC establishes integrity committee

2013-03-18 22:24

Johannesburg - The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) has established the party's integrity committee and approved guidelines, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Monday.

The commission would be chaired by Rivonia trialist and former Robben Island prisoner Andrew Mlangeni, Mantashe told reporters in Johannesburg.

Other members of the commission were Frene Ginwala, Nelson Diale, Gertrude Shope, Ahmed Kathrada, Rashida Abdullah, Mendi Msimang, Sophie De Bruyn, Jethro Ndlovu, Dennis Goldberg, Lindelwe Mabandla and Nokukhanya Jele, who would form the commission secretariat.

Mantashe said the secretariat would be expanded to increase the research capacity of the integrity commission.

The committee was set up during a three-day NEC meeting held in Irene, south of Pretoria, at the weekend.

At its national conference in Mangaung last year, the ANC resolved to set up the integrity commission at all levels of the organisation.

This was also a resolution taken at its national general council in 2010.

"More urgent steps should be taken to protect the image of the organisation and enhance its standing in society by ensuring, among others, that urgent action is taken to deal with public officials, leaders and members of the ANC who face damaging allegations of improper conduct," the ANC said in its Mangaung policy resolutions.

"The ANC can no longer allow prolonged processes that damage its integrity."

Mantashe said the NEC also discussed and approved the national presenters with regards to the national disciplinary committee.

The national presenters were the people who presented the NEC's case at an internal disciplinary.

The presenters were: Uriel Abrahamse, Andries Nel, Gcina Malindi, and Mahlape Sello.

Eish, Gwede. Another committee? Cant eANC cadre's keep themselves in check? All you need are ethics, morals and knowing right from wrong. Oh wait...

      Rustic - 2013-03-18 22:32

Contradiction in terms - under this particular ANC Stewardship.

      Kari Pentikainen - 2013-03-18 22:37

Oh and they need to be remunirated aswell. 1st priority to be sure.!

      fourhundredkg.bobbejaan - 2013-03-18 22:59

The term "ANC Integrity Committee" has just been awarded the coveted Oxymoron of the Year Award. Congratulations to the hard workers who invented it.

      FeebleGastro - 2013-03-18 23:05

Eish, ja... Integrity and ANC, no man, just doesn't sit well together...

      Carl De Beer - 2013-03-18 23:13

I thought they had more integrity than to form an "integrity committee".

      Hein Huyser - 2013-03-18 23:37

It's election year, what did we expect? The integrity will be believable only if they cleanse the party, starting at the top 10. If not, it's window dressing. Expose and fire. Nothing more, nothing less.

      jesibelle.krugger - 2013-03-19 00:02

ANC Integrity Committee... Bhwaaaa, ha, ha, ha..!! Is that not like banging for chastity..? 'ANC DEMOCRACY' is like two wolves and a lamb having a democratic vote about what they are going to have for dinner. LIBERTY is the lamb pitching at the vote with a Barrett 50 Caliber...

      gerasimos - 2013-03-19 02:27

This is so similar to George Orwell’s book “1984” which is a criticism of totalitarianism. You will discover that the Ministry of Peace makes war, the Ministry of Plenty administers over shortages, the Ministry of Truth spreads propaganda and lies, and the Ministry of Love inflicts misery. The “Committee of Integrity” is actually a “Committee of Dishonesty” The ANC is going down the same path. All they can do is spin “Big Brother ANC” controls a totalitarian society, which acts as ifs everything is satisfactory, professes to offer value for money, but in truth is nothing more than a group of people with no real understanding of making a society work, and thus keeps it running on fear, public relations and spin. WAR IS PEACE - FREEDOM IS SLAVERY - IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

      Anton - 2013-03-19 02:36

"ANC" and "integrity" don't belong on the same page; never mind same sentence.

      Thandiwe Ngema - 2013-03-19 03:42

LOL The headline is a contradiction in terms! How can the words ANC and integrity go together!?

      Léviter Au-dessus des Montagnes-Bleues - 2013-03-19 04:38

ANC dissolves into a racist old age quagmire reeking of rampant cronyism, fraud, corruption & highest level theft! Clever Blacks look on in awe still grasping entitlement with gnarled claws ranting "Uguh uguh uguh" clueless to the position of 'S' in BRICS. BRICS being a consortium of anti-anything established in favour of a new pipeline of raw materials & finished products. The B R I & C need raw materials (lots from the S) & the B R I & C also need a market for finished goods and services so they pimp presidents and inexperienced nduna's with bulging backpockets of bursting BEE Entitlement and strip the 'S' of raw materials and sell the manufactured goods BACK to 'S' on top of it all. A perfect relationship. Uguh uguh, what an eastern bugaagh! What happened to the promise of jobs? SUCCESS? 55 million in the B R I & C & minus (let alone zero) in the 'S'. WHO stripped the 'S's national assets Iron, Coal, Transport, Energy, Petroleum? BBBEE Entitled cronies in the NEC Elite of course with a few related. Who feeds the new order of state largesse, the COLLECTIVE NEC Elite. WHERE are the productive infrastructure developments to save the nation, Medupi & party funding 'chunnel' Chancellor House, Acellor Mittal saga, presidential coal mines, & presidential Congo raw materials safe guarded by negotiated agreement using the nations armed forces deployed to Congo among a stinking pile of others? Where are the many millions of clever hard working 'S' beneficiaries in BRICS?

      walter.o.latham - 2013-03-19 06:54

My first question is who is going to pay these people..... the taxpayer? To my mind this is all window-dressing before the elections next year and why has it taken so long and why must there be so many people on this committee????? Continuing hand-outs to loyal cadres! You can bet your bottom dollar that they'll say nothing about JZ's palace spending!!!

      arthur.salvado - 2013-03-19 07:16

One extra pay cheque for zero achievement. Keep a check on this one. Let's see what they call integrity and to whom it applies. Watch out press.

      John Thelps - 2013-03-19 07:36

Hope they won't be ANC members!

      Mannie777 - 2013-03-19 07:56

How embarrassing! - so these days we need a committee to recognise and establish and maintain integrity of that organisation ..... just WOW !! Worst is - this is actually the part I would have tried to kept a secret if I was the ANC.....eish.

      NickvanGraan - 2013-03-19 08:12

If the government wants integrity, it should step down.

  • jungleboy - 2013-03-18 22:36

What a joke. The fact you need an integrity committee simply means you never had any to start with. Integrity is like manners and morality, you either have it or you dont I can categorically confirm that the ANC has neither.

      Philo Pillowcase Simelane - 2013-03-19 07:59

      HerpDerp - 2013-03-18 23:36

Yes, but the new people in power are born with greed and need to learn what intergrity is. quite pathetic if you ask me.

  • Phae Rayden - 2013-03-18 22:40

Yeh sure, when Jacob, Tony, Mac, Tina, Dina and, and, and are kicked out of the ANC will this committee have some integrity of its own. Until then just another bunch of pals being paid millions to window dress.

      Godfrey Welman - 2013-03-18 23:31

All to fool those disappointed ANC members ahead of elections 2014 and theose members ready to move to Agang and WASP

  • Tersia Louw - 2013-03-18 22:42

"This was also a resolution taken at its national general council in 2010." So what was the thought process (if any) behind the 3 year delay? Let the comrades have another few years of tenderpreneurship and corruption and fraud and theft before we make them toe the line?

      Ronald - 2013-03-18 23:05

That is how long it took them to find out that they have no conscience, ethics and morals, and to decide to establish a committee to find out where these normally ingrained human traits have gone and, if found, if it would impact negatively on their income, legal and not so legal.

  • Richard Lowndes - 2013-03-18 22:45

But April 1 is still a couple of weeks away. Gwede can't get anything right.

  • Nkosinathi Gezindaba Snr - 2013-03-18 22:52

Crime, poverty, corruption, etc out of control, all the ANC is doing is forming committees! I dream of a two-political party system in SA, and the realisation of that dream begins next year, I am NOT voting ANC!

  • Grace Andtruth - 2013-03-18 23:07

Joke of the CENTURY..... Hahaha!!! MAybe just maybe the ANC should learn the meaning of the word! Starting with our (cough cough choke) president

  • Carl De Beer - 2013-03-18 23:08

Another "committee" so they can meet once a month and eat and drink for free on the tax payers behalf...pathetic.

      Thebigguyjim - 2013-03-19 07:28

Xolani, wake up freind. Where does the ANC get it's funds. Chancelor House mainly. They will just award a new tender. No problem.

  • Sheik Mohammad - 2013-03-18 23:11

Wow............"ANC" and "Integrity" in the same sentence. Next they'll start using "Honesty" with "Integrity".

  • Rustic - 2013-03-18 23:12

"ANC establishes integrity committee." Other headlines I would believe more readily: "Cat hunts down and eats Great Dane" "Zuma gives up wives for lent" "SABC denounces ANC leadership"

      shaunsm1th - 2013-03-18 23:24

Lol. A cat hunting and eating a great dane would make a worthy headline.

  • Vic Hammond - 2013-03-18 23:17

First they should establish a committee to explain and understand what integrity really means because most of thom don't have a clue !!

  • Bob Bothalezi - 2013-03-18 23:22

Hard to associate Anc with integrity !

      Xolani Dallas Radebe - 2013-03-19 05:31

  • Desilusionada - 2013-03-18 23:22

LOL Integrity -(noun) Completeness the state of being complete or undivided • the territorial integrity of the nation This has nothing to do with keeping those thieves honest? It is trying to keep the bl00dy rickety wooden wagon with the square wheels, which the ANC calls a party, from falling apart......

  • Stefan Erasmus - 2013-03-18 23:23

    Well said Nkosinathi.

  • Rachel Mdluli - 2013-03-18 23:23

Oh great this is a joke right?do they really need a committee to bring back their integrity really?!To bring it back its simple fire people who are not perfoming their duties like Motshekga why is she still there with the text book saga and why do u want spend money building committees?

  • Michael Hurly - 2013-03-18 23:42

Gupta, Fransman, Mac Maharaj and Vivian Reddy

  • Sean Tucker - 2013-03-19 00:20

Does this mean a way to sweep it under the carpet a bit faster. Stuff saving the integrity of tax payers money

  • Bless Boswell - 2013-03-19 00:24

I would not have thought that ANC and integrity could ever appear in the same sentence. This is really so sad - the fact that they believe that the people will for one moment believe that it will come to anything. If they want to show they mean business - they ought to take the president to task over all his shady business and flagrant wastage of public funds.

  • Richard Gavshon - 2013-03-19 00:27

Naturally they all get top of the range Mercs, travel allowances and all the trappings that go with such an elevated position.

  • werner.nel.712 - 2013-03-19 00:42

      Makabongwe Ntinga - 2013-03-19 00:59

its shouldn't cost any money as it is an internal matter. no a public matter. stop racisim

      racism? you fnnnn stupid?

      well said Makabongwe

      Andre - 2013-03-19 07:44

It is time that you and your ANC caders go back to school and write out 1000 times what the definition of a racist is. You will then discover that it stands for Ntinga ANC.

      Croix Mactee - 2013-03-19 09:08

'aluta continua' in your case means : "may the looting continue"? Think a bit man - why are taxpayers funding R200m+ of zuma's PRIVATE HOME?!!!! Hopefully one day YOU will awaken from YOUR RACIST STUPOR!

  • marina.poniatowska - 2013-03-19 01:24

      Hein Huyser - 2013-03-19 07:09

Public relations disaster you mean? Integrity -(noun) Completeness the state of being complete or undivided • the territorial integrity of the nation  Seems they have created just another way of boosting the pension funds of some cadres in a "legal" manner. And no, everything the anc pays have not been generated by themselves if not by the taxpayer first.

  • Gary Doyle - 2013-03-19 05:10

Nhlamulo, its the first test of democracy or dictatorship. The freedom to constructively criticize or not. You have your answer

  • Shaun McCormack - 2013-03-19 06:19

The anc is a dysfunctional mob with NO integrity as can be shown with all the corruption. Honour amongst thieves?
