ANC heavyweights gather in Pretoria

2012-09-14 16:12

Pretoria - ANC heavyweights have begun gathering in Pretoria on Friday afternoon for the start of their national executive committee (NEC) meeting.

President Jacob Zuma, National Assembly Speaker Max Sisulu, ministers Trevor Manuel, Lindiwe Sisulu, Fikile Mbalula, Susan Shabango, Jeff Radebe, Nathi Mthethwa and Naledi Pandor were seen entering the venue at St George's hotel.

At the head of the table were Zuma, deputy president Kgalema Mothlanthe, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe, ANC treasurer general Mathews Phosa and deputy secretary general Thandi Modise.

Before the session started, Zuma was seen walking through stalls selling African National Congress merchandise set up at the hotel.

Talking on his cellphone, the president kept looking at a black ANC shirt, while security stood nearby.

ANC Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola was seen arriving alone.

Earlier, Mantashe said the ANC national executive committee would meet to discuss the matters that are currently in the public domain.

"It's not an emergency [meeting], it's a normal NEC meeting. It's scheduled," he said.

The meeting is expected to run until 16 September.

With the current crises in the mines, shouldn't they be having a Cabinet meeting at the Union Buildings? Or would that be seen as putting the good of the country before party politics?

  • Maketa Khayalakhe Khekhe - 2012-09-15 07:49

in south africa whites will always be whites i don't see myself voting for a white leader not in a million years i have read what they commented about blacks in most post not only the issue of malema they electrocuted a farm worker nobody made a noise about it but still da focus is still on us blacks

      erhardvz - 2012-09-15 08:31

Dear Maketa You should realise that all whites do not act the same towards, think the same about and feel the same about blacks. Blacks people have stolen my phone, broken into my home, assaulted me, cost me promotions due to BEE and they costs me thousands of rand in taxes that get paid out in social security grants. Yet I do not hate black people. They are also my colleges that work with me, I have black neighbours who became friends, they are the policemen who found my car after it was robbed and one of them cleans my house and washes my clothes. So Maketa not all blacks are bad, and not all whites will electrocute farm workers. Most of us are quite decent. Obviously you can vote you want to – but remember, the ANC failed everybody
