ANC 'is being corrupted'

2012-08-05 11:18

Johannesburg - ANC members who lobby in the party's branches for a change in leadership are corrupting the movement, ANC treasurer general Mathews Phosa has told the Sunday Times.

"Lobbyists are the corruptive soul of the movement... we must allow space for the branches to do nominations in October. ANC policies are clear," he said in an interview with the newspaper.

"Branches of the ANC do not owe us a second term... They owe us a proper assessment of the situation and [then need to] decide what is in the best interests of the country."

He said branches should use the time before nominations opened in October to assess how the party's leadership had performed, instead of listening to lobby groups.

"They must assess us now [and] they must be encouraged to assess us. They can't start assessing us in October when they must nominate," Phosa said.

The Sunday Times reported that members opposing a second term for President Jacob Zuma had released a list of candidates for the African National Congress's top six positions, against the party's protocol.

The list included deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe for party president, and Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale as his deputy.

The ANC's elective conference will be held in Mangaung in December.

  • siphiwo.maurice - 2012-08-05 11:41

This is a directive statement from Phosa, it has been a long time we never heard such a statement from the ANC. Phosa reminds of the - 'Through the Eye of the Needle' doc. We must have vigilant members who can see that, there are ANC members who are hell bent into 'leadership change'..while in actual fact, want to milk the organisation. These are so-called comrades who do nothing to further the nobles objectives of the movement. They must discarded and thrown out.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-08-05 11:52

The ANC is a criminal organisation. Most ANC members of parliament do have criminal records.

  • BulletProof. - 2012-08-05 11:51

The truth is like the olive oil always comes up floating in the water, no sense to say is this or that faction that is corrupt still a ANC faction any way and this corruption is going on and on for years. How many corrupt factions does the ANC have and how many still to come?

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-08-05 11:58

this is the most corrupt regime on planet earth, every day another episode, the world is watching. They think they are fooling the crowd, the only ones they are fooling are the poor. Disgrace to humanity!

  • ramohapelwa.berries - 2012-08-05 12:00

Branches do ANC leaders a favour to serve them. They depend on branches. We don't own anyone second term. They are lazy to think.

      ramohapelwa.berries - 2012-08-05 12:13

It's criminal to start nominations in October. Branch, regional, provincial and national audits take forever. Take leaf from what happened at the FS provincial conference

  • lacrimose.wolf - 2012-08-05 12:01

The presidential nomination protocol is undemocratic & corrupt. No-one is allowed to put themselves forward, they must be invited. By whom? Who controls the list and on what basis do they get on the list?

  • vmeiring1 - 2012-08-05 12:01

Phosa, the ANC is not bothered what's in the best interest of this country or their voters. They are only interested in what they can gain from the taxpayer. Yes, the ANC in total is corrupt, a bunch of thieves.

  • markjack.deppe - 2012-08-05 12:17

Mr Phosa, very wrong analogy. The ANC is not being corrupted. They are corrupt. Your ANC policies has never and will never listen to the people but your cronies. You see you use the constitution when and how it suits you. Your ANC have your own constitution which is leading this country into where it is currently. Lets take your ANC policies for a change and shove them where it hurts. The constitution of the country says we have a right to freedom of expression. Is the lobbyist not using that right ??

Waaahaaahaha! ANC being corrupted, you mean they are not already corrupt enough? They are the most corrupt organization on the planet, they certainly not a political party, they are a Communist Revolutionary terrorist organization, rotten to the core, what with Zuma "wanting" 2 luxury VIP airliners @R2b and a R2b Zumaville.

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-08-05 13:49

Please somebody take his blinkers off. The whole of the ANC is corrupt, in fact we even have a president who speaks with a forked tongue. He is a just a crowd pleaser. Goodness, what are we in for next. Is there anybody in the ANC that does not have a tainted record, if ther is that is the man for president. Problem is people are now sick and tired of the lies lies and the real blame being put to bed. Promises, masses of promises that are forgotten at a drop of a hat. Cadres are protected at all costs. A lawless society for criminals. People are very dispondent no hope for the future. We need a catastrophe to happen to pull the people together, government is responsible for turning people against each other for their own gain.

  • magomarele - 2012-08-05 13:50

precedence has been set in Polokwane by allowing the tendency of people circulating lists around and persuading others to vote for a list instead of their preferences. Maybe it was a right thing to do then in order to get rid of Mbeki's administration which seemed to be corrupt, untouchable and immortal, but the tendency was supposed to end there. The tendency continued in the provinces and all ANC structures unabated. Now because some heavyweights are facing a chop it's wrong. Anyway, I think the whole ANC top6 has delivered on their mandate, except their president who kept embarrassing them by sleeping around, impregnating young girls and marrying wives at expense of taxpayers. He's the only one who's supposed to be compromised, not the whole top6.

Comrade Phosa we the people don't cut it no more until you fire these and other officials/ministers and expel them from the Party for Corrupt practices We the people will deal with you at the polls. Acknowledging it, admitting it being ashamed of it embarrassed by it talking about it, having discussions about it and. of cause the ultimate favorite Investigating it is all worthless. Maybe u think you can get away with it as a party/movement. But as the governing party/governing. Us as a country you no longer represent our values. Sorry comrade!

abt fifteen years ago a study was done that since the ANC or africans has never seen or control so much money b 4 their eyes its highly possible that they gonna steal it. So its an issue of most comrades coming into power will steal or benefits themselves b 4 putting people first.

"... being corrupted"? The ANC is the MOST corrupt government SA has ever known. People should read this one: It's time the ANC was voted out of government so that South Africa can experience a non-Communist and a truly Democratic government.

  • lindy.m.oliver - 2012-08-05 16:04

  • gerasimos.komnenus - 2012-08-05 17:58

Corrupt the already corrupted? I don't think there is a word in any language to describe this pathetic "dis-organisation." Here are a few definitions on the word corruption. Just about all applicable to the ANC facists . Guilty of dishonest practices, as bribery; lacking integrity; crooked. Debased in character; depraved; perverted; wicked; evil. Made inferior by errors or alterations, as a text. Infected; tainted. Decayed; putrid. To destroy the integrity of; cause to be dishonest, disloyal, etc., especially by bribery. To lower morally; pervert: to corrupt youth. To alter for the worse; debase. To mar; spoil. To infect; taint.
