ANC military veterans back Zuma

2012-10-18 16:33

Johannesburg - The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) is backing President Jacob Zuma for a second term as ANC leader.

"We will support Kgalema Motlanthe for deputy president, but if he contests the [presidency], the conference resolved to support comrade Cyril Ramaphosa [for deputy president]," chairman Kebby Maphatsoe told reporters in Johannesburg.

This was a decision taken at the MKMVA's national conference held in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, at the weekend.

Maphatsoe said the MKMVA wanted secretary general Gwede Mantashe and national chairperson Baleka Mbete to retain their positions.

However, it wanted Jessie Duarte to take over as deputy secretary general from Thandi Modise and Zweli Mkhize to take over as treasurer general from Mathews Phosa.

"Conference supports these comrades based on their history, the role they played in the ANC and MK, the role they continue to play in building cohesion and unity in the ANC, alliance and government, and the achievements of government under their leadership," said Maphatsoe.

The ANC holds its national elective conference in Mangaung in December.

Let the citizens decide like a true democracy. Not a bunch of guys with inflated wallets and egos.

Is KZN influencing everyone support Zuma?

  • marc.ross.965 - 2012-10-18 16:56

Umkhonto we Sizwe. Doesn't that mean Spear of the Nation. So Zuma and Umkhonto we Sizwe are the same thing. But shoulnt "spear" rather be "prick"?

  • Michael - 2012-10-18 16:59

Anyone who thinks that Zuma will not get second term, is just disconnected from poitical reality in this country, and Phosa and Modise support to Julius Malema will cost them very important positions in the ANC. It is increasingly becoming very clear that they will be replaced at Mangaung.

      brad.ken.18 - 2012-10-18 18:00

But he wont last. As did'nt Mbeki! The in-house unruliness and greed, will move him on in a year. I enjoy that thought!

  • hitting.thefan - 2012-10-18 17:03

Of course they would, these are liberators and liberators new how to fight but run a country hell no. that is exactly the reason why the government are failing because you have fighters running a democracy they do not understand this, it is to complex!

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2012-10-18 18:22

Lol. When did MK ever become fighters?. Only fighting they ever got involved in was among themselves. Not a single shot was fired at the SADF or the police by these thugs. Don't give credit where it's not due.

its about time my vote becomes useful (IFP or DA maybe) in the next genera elections. First the Zuma-faction was negotiating for two centres of power, and now MKMVA threatening Motlante, its about time Motlante stands his ground.

I am not surprised by the very negative comments about Zuma on this site,I am used to them.Long before 2009 general elections,Zuma was called a rapist but today he is a head of the state. This is not to say I am happy with his performance but let us allow democracy to take its course. We seeing the very same this time around, the more u personnally attack Zuma, the more u make him popular.Sexwale,Phosa and Mbalula were the first people to run a campaign against the Showerman, today they are not favourates.

      Randomhero6661 - 2012-10-18 17:53

No! Its actually laughable-they were given a budget to ceate projects that can create profits to look after all former MK VETERANS. But their Chairman:KENNY MPHATSOE,Secretary: AYANDA DLODLO chowed all that money like ZULUS DEVOURING A DEAD HIPPO.

It is no astonish since these `mkva` are being deployed at senior public servive to rule dispite their lack of capability. They earn high salaries for distroying the future country.
