ANC 'supports democratisation of Swaziland'

2012-06-29 09:22

Johannesburg - The ANC resolved that it will continue to be in solidarity with the people struggling in Swaziland, international relations committee member Lindiwe Zulu said on Thursday.

"We support the democratisation of Swaziland," Zulu told reporters at the ANC's national policy conference in Midrand, Johannesburg.

This was an outcome of the ANC's policy discussions on international relations.

Loan MOU

Zulu said the conference resolved that it had to "push forward" for the unbanning of political parties in Swaziland.

She said the South African government was still waiting for Swaziland to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in relation to a loan.

"The MOU... calls for the democratisation and unbanning of political parties," she said.

"Swaziland has agreed to sign the MOU without removing conditions."

South Africa would only lend Swaziland the money if it agreed to the conditions.

The ANC would work with its alliance partner, the Congress of SA Trade Unions, on helping Swaziland.

Neutral on Zimbabwe

Zulu said the ANC also acknowledged that it had a relationship with Zanu-PF in Zimbabwe and said it would continue to have a relationship with the country.

However, it said it would remain neutral when it came to dealing with Zimbabwe's different political parties.

Zulu said the ANC would continue to support Palestine and called for an increased boycott on Israeli products.

Economic diplomacy was also discussed.

"We must ensure our economy grows, not just in South Africa but in all SADC countries," she said.

On the International Criminal Court (ICC), Zulu said the ANC felt the court had to stop only looking at African countries.

"We're not against the ICC but the ANC says there must be a balance," said Zulu.

The ANC also continued to support countries such as Madagascar, Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia, but it would not send troops to Somalia.

Another fat useless African dictator that needs to be overthrown (thrown over) a cliff. The king can't see the memorandum over his fat gut.

For a person who looks like mans best friend you have to go and see Mr. Milano I don't agree with you given the situation we now experience here where everybody wants to rule and make themselves look rather incompetent along the way.

Good idea, except the ANC definition of democracy is "3 wolves and 1 sheep deciding what to have for dinner".

      Squeegee - 2012-06-29 12:10

ANC definition of change is: Lets give the King more money so that he can stay in power.

"Democracy" in Africa!!!!!Prof Dunning Cornell U in a study determined that some people are too stupid to realize that they are stupid.

If they support the democratization of Swaziland, why do their actions (FoI, SS, etc) for SA support the suppression of democracy? Why are they extending support for an undemocratic monarchistic tribal rule in SA?

According to the ANC, Zanu-PF and the Palestinians can do no evil. The ANC's foreign policy is wrought with inconsistencies and appears to be based on the personal allegiances of individuals and not on any political model.

      patson.nedzamba - 2012-06-29 10:43

Their personal relation with the two is clouding their judgement big time!

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-06-29 12:47

Sean and everyone here. Please sign this petition today. They are trying to get one million signatures to send to Zuma in an effort to stop the slaughter of our Lions. The bones are used to make 'sexwine' for Asian men. Thanks everyone.

ANC is full of crap, they should focus on crime and poverty in South Africa and leave Swaziland alone, the people of Swaziland need to determine their own future and that has nothing to do with ANC, there us too many problems in South Africa and Zuma is one of them!

  • Hermann - 2012-06-29 10:32

Can't fail their sense of humour, can we.

  • patson.nedzamba - 2012-06-29 10:41

Since when do the ANC practice what they preach? They have well-decorated policies that they cannot implement due to greed and running this country the Animal Farm Style. How I wish the majority of the voters could see beyond their noses!

  • Andre - 2012-06-29 10:46

This is laughable. The ANC, and it's followers, do not know what the word "democracy" means!

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-06-29 10:56

Exactly. How ironic when they clearly show daily that they lack understanding of the concept 'democracy'. I suggest they apply their minds to their own problems in SA, most of which they created.

Zuma , you can't balance out where crimes are committed relating to the ICC . We can't procecute this African because we haven't procecuted an east Asian yet, its illogical . Cases and evidence are presented , procecutions occur based on that evidence. Simply live up to the agreements signed into via the UN , it is a disgrace that any country should not honour their agreement in accordance to the law based on their subjective views and reasonings (Congrats Malawi). I also find it strange that they support democratisation of Swaziland (ie:Regime change) but not , Libya , Syria , Iraq , Afganistan & Iran ect. I'd love to have the reasoning behind blatent double standards they claim on the ICC.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-06-29 11:06

      Good comment. Spot on.

  • charmaine.mcdonald2 - 2012-06-29 11:29

Zuma should stay in South Africa and sort our the Crime Rate here at home and not worry about other countries and their problems.

      scouter.fourone - 2012-06-29 11:47

Don't be silly Charmaine - if he stays put here he will have no excuse to splash out on the R2Bn new toy ....... apart from that, I think there is a growing desire within SA for him to stay far, far away from the country as much as possible.
