ANC 'using own funds for Mangaung'

2012-12-14 10:04

Johannesburg - The ANC is not using government money for its conference in Mangaung, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Friday.

"The ANC conference is not funded by the government at all. At all," he said at a The New Age business briefing broadcast by SABC2.

The party had raised its own funds through events like gala dinners and would "look at the overdraft" afterwards.

The African National Congress holds its 53rd national conference at the University of the Free State, in Bloemfontein, from Sunday to Friday.

It will host around 4 500 direct representatives, a massive support team, and local and international guests and media.

"We battle. It is heavy," said Mantashe.

Even if they are using their own money (which is highly doubtful), ANC lie and try cover up their lies so much, that nobody believes them anyway!

Yes, this is true! As true as the existence of tooth fairy, unicorns, as real as Hofmeyer having one child, as real as Lance Armstrong being a true champion, as real as Nkandla having a registered bond, as real as Pamela Anderson's plastic dairy farm, as real as malema's "A" in wood work, as real as the spear being in a monogamous relationship, as real as Monica Lewinsky not being such a SUCK up, as real as excellent service delivery, as real as Schabir being terminally Ill...You get my point right.

      marilyn.docherty.9 - 2012-12-14 11:12

Yip! Using their own funds until it comes out otherwise!!!

      rbphiri - 2012-12-14 11:17

You not the first and you won't be the last...the ANC is a personification of a sewage farm.

      sharon.erwin.96 - 2012-12-14 11:35

If they can hand out food parcels at election time bought with taxpayer's money, and convince voters that the ANC paid for it, then why not use taxmoney for everything else? It would not surprise me in the least, the coffers have been flung wide open.

Ja, and Zuma are paying off on a bond

  • Eterni80 - 2012-12-14 10:14

cANCer handbook definition of 'own funds' - SA's tax money they don't have any honestly earned income - every cent was stolen from us - they wouldn't know how to 'earn' an honest wage if their lived depended on it.

  • rob.bayliss.94 - 2012-12-14 10:17

Does the anc get any money from the fiscus/tax base. I am sure that it does, so stories like this belong in the same category as 'trust me I'm a lawyer/doctor/politician/whatever'. Really, pretending that moving money from right pocket to left is the same as getting independant funding is just blatant disengenious misdirection...call it lying!

      attie.mostert.9 - 2012-12-14 10:48

      Agents !!! Bloody Agents !!!

  • Erna - 2012-12-14 10:18

Why is it necessary for gwede to state this? Must be because there is a perception that the anc can't be trusted. Thd DA didn't have to clarify their use of funds when they held their conference. But they probably didn't expect 5 star accommodation and refreshments.

      robbie.crouch - 2012-12-14 10:23

Nor did they demand police protection... just had some traffic police to manage the situation, quite normal for a big event. The poor people living close by have to have permits to get to their own homes!

      Kawasaki1985 - 2012-12-14 11:58

      @ hanwi - Agent get out !

  • jfdavel - 2012-12-14 10:19

What is the ANC's money source?

      mark.corrigan.3910 - 2012-12-14 10:31

CHANCELLOR HOUSE. "After initially being exposed as a surreptitious funding front for the African National Congress it was subsequently acknowledged as an in-house investment firm for the party. It is best known for the controversy surrounding the award to it of lucrative black economic empowerment and parastatal contracts.... ...In November 2007 parastatal electricity supplier Eskom awarded the biggest single contract in its history, for six steam generators worth R20 billion, to a consortium including Hitachi Power Africa. At the time of the award that company was 25% owned by Chancellor House. In February 2008 the ANC said it would appoint advisers with a view to transparently exiting the transaction due to governance issues. In March 2008 the office of the Public Protector said an investigation into the transaction was underway."

      mark.corrigan.3910 - 2012-12-14 10:33

Just one of many BEE deals that the ANC makes with itself as government, with kickbacks, patronage, tenders and "donations" ensuring that each cent the ANC makes is "on the books" of government and therefore "legit".

  • robbie.crouch - 2012-12-14 10:21

Maybe... but who does he think is paying for all the cops and soldiers doing security detail? The tooth fairy!

  • luviwe.jay - 2012-12-14 10:21

No it is money from donations by tenderpreneurs. That one we know that is how the ANC loot state coffers to benefit ANC directly.

  • robert.starke.98 - 2012-12-14 10:23

Does this mean they have used State funds before for previous conferences !!!

      mark.corrigan.3910 - 2012-12-14 10:33

      Yes, including this one.

  • elkita.robbertse.96 - 2012-12-14 10:27

  • alan.davis.5249 - 2012-12-14 10:29

ANC have their own money? Then why do they take from the TAXPAYER. ANC = Government = ANC ! So what's new????

  • talana.malherbe - 2012-12-14 10:29

Yes your own funds that you have accumulated by cheating the SA citizens out of their livelihood!

  • zebedee.kok - 2012-12-14 10:29

  • warren.carne.9 - 2012-12-14 10:30

And I am the Easter Bunny.

  • sandy.sutherland.58 - 2012-12-14 10:33

What he means to say is that if the ANC cannot get their sticky paws on Tax money to pay for this, then like pretty much every other ANC 'event' they will just not bother to pay anyone! There is a string of stories of companies and people trying to get paid by the ANC!

  • sthembiso.lebuso - 2012-12-14 10:41

They better be not using state funds, we tired of the African National Congress using government for its personal use

  • aspruyt - 2012-12-14 10:46

Money was raised through bribes and corruption!

  • kuno.tschumi.5 - 2012-12-14 10:47

i am speechless... they use their own money which they stole from us the taxpayers during the year. would be even better if we would have to pay for their big eating and drinking get together. it is a party internal affair and therefore not tax money to be used..

  • SarelJBotha - 2012-12-14 10:48

Show us the proof as without that you are just full of spin.

  • Khomotso - 2012-12-14 10:48

Are you really expecting us to believe that..

  • gary.desousa.5 - 2012-12-14 10:52

I suppose its a sign of all the corruption that the anc even have to deny the use of gov funds. So there will not be one gov car there?our money, our petrol. Only the gravytrain companies support them and maybe some who have not yet got on the train. The plane tickets were all bought by the anc ? An Audit pls

  • John Badenhorst - 2012-12-14 10:55

Yeah...right...and if you believe that load of BS then you must believe in the tooth fairy too...oooh, eh eh....dis is a nice gravy train....all aboard!!!!

  • john.bucknall.1 - 2012-12-14 10:55

  • charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-14 11:03

Yeah, R50 from the ANC and the overdraft of probably, let's see, at least R150 million will be footed by the taxpayer! Their galas that they host all year, gets payed by the taxpayers, no money comes in, don't f@@kin lie to us, we know the truth, idiot cANCer, can someone take these fools out please!!

  • pragasen.padayachy - 2012-12-14 11:10

If the ANC is using their own money for Manguang, the Home Affairs will be able to issue a Visa to the Dalai Lama !!!!

  • dennis.riekert - 2012-12-14 11:12

And who sponsored the gala events, the tenderpreneur's, bottom line the conference in Mangaung is sponsored by Government, namely the tax payer

  • hangwi.maphanda - 2012-12-14 11:14

i bet to disagree wit you guys' anc has money frm membership only they generate over R50m. unlike de other parties wit less dan 200000 membership....

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-14 12:17

Thumbsucker to the max, go puke your bullsh@t somewhere else!

      patsy.smith.125 - 2012-12-14 19:50

Wow!!! A whole R50m. And where did the money for Zumaville come from then? More that R230m? Never mind the roads in the compound - more than R500m? Not even the ANC can claim that amount of members. Stop bluffing yourself....

  • sisie.indola - 2012-12-14 11:15

ANC paying it's own way - wow that must be the most profound saying this whole year. Please lets get real here and admit it right now - you and me, the taxpayer will be paying for this party. To all B&B and hotels in Bloemfontein - tell the ANC members who are about to descend on you like a ton of bricks this week end that "there is no room at the inn, unless they pay in FULL on registration" otherwise you will be crying for your money at the next "elective party" 5 years down the line. I would love to see them all camped out on the field at the University. Remember people - photos!

  • maria.kave.5 - 2012-12-14 11:17

  • themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-14 11:24

"Own funds" means kickbacks from inflated tenders and "donations" from tenderpreuneurs, most of whom will be in Mangaung again making deals and pledging "own money" to the ANC in return. What a lying, thieving, shameless bunch

      charl.malan.12 - 2012-12-14 12:15

      I concur

  • wesselo1 - 2012-12-14 11:26

Absolutely correct, they did all the trouble of stealing the money themselves, and is now using it. Its their money now.

  • lee.brand.73 - 2012-12-14 11:30

Why tell us? Thats how it should be in a country with a real government. Are you saying that your guys are prone to stealing cash but you will try do it right this time? Do you realise that 90% of us dont believe a single word you say?

I'm sure those def ran at a loss with all the expensive Johnny Blue label and expensive foods. Plus you still owe Guest houses R7mil and you stole owe money for all your previous campaigns, so dont talk your lies that you are not going to use government money for this waste of a Mangaung conference. This is ANC at its best at how to waste money. Well ANC voters there goes your RDP houses for next year.
