ANC won't lose Gauteng - Mantashe

2013-07-29 18:04

Johannesburg - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says there is no chance the party will lose control of Gauteng in next year's elections, Eyewitness News reported on Monday.

He said the ANC was hard at work in the DA -led Western Cape, and did not foresee a change of governance in Gauteng.

Mantashe was speaking at a SA National Editors' Forum (Sanef) meeting in Johannesburg on Monday morning.

He said the ruling party was now in full election mode.

"We want to win convincingly, and we want to win everywhere."

Mantashe said elections were a time for the ANC to showcase its achievements as well as admit to problems.

"We can say many things, that it hasn't started yet, or we are still preparing, but my feeling in earnest is that election campaigns have started."

      theVillagersVoice - 2013-07-29 18:44

Why the deletion News 24. Yes the election campaigns have started in ernest, in fact they were started quite some time ago. Yes the ANC is hard at work in the Western Cape, destabilising the province. In fact they have been hard at work here for some time now, to the detrement of the rest of the country, especially Gauteng. It's all about winning back the Western Cape, we do not need to do much in Gauteng, as they are already in Bag, or should I say the ballot box. Come on Gauteng wake up, they do not care about people they already own. Yes election time is to showcase your achievements, which are few and far between, other than ripping off your deluded supporters and the poor of SA. Nevertheless you have some great achievements to boast about, Marikana, Nkandla, Guptagate, presidential jets in the offing, a military that cannot use the expensive hardware that you purchased, education scandals and the many other achievemnts of similar nature. Admit your problems, I doubt it. More likely that you will try your best to whitewash them - oops that might be construed as racist terminolgy - ehh colour them with a brush of - shucks for want of a metaphor that that will not offend the sensitive, best you just forget your problems and failure and brush them under the carpet - That will do. O Gauteng, wake up and smell the coffee that the ANC are dishing up for you. It is instant coffee in place of the real thing

      Anti-PC - 2013-07-29 18:45

ANC is totally oblivious to what is going on in the country. Their people are tired of corruption, tired of non-delivery, tired of promises, tired a bad education, tired of money being spent unnecessarily. Now let the people speak!!

      Tersia Louw - 2013-07-29 18:54

I've never heard poo-flinging (there was another episode today) described as hard work before.

      Sean Bagley - 2013-07-29 18:56

"the ANC was hard at work in the DA-led Western Cape..." says Mantashe What was that exactly?Throwing human k^k around and trying to destabilize the Western Cape? All your ANC votes are going to fat manchild Malema's EFF,which opens the door for the DA to gain those votes. You and EFF should focus on reaching your corruption targets first before talking BS about winning any votes. You also learning quite a bit from Mugabe's ZANU-PF about how to start filling ballot boxes early before the actual election takes place. Enjoy your KFC instead Qwede...

"He said the ruling party was now in full election mode." I can see that yes, because for the first time in 10 years, yes 10 years!, i have actually seen council workers cutting the grass next to the national road I live hehehehehe

      Ad Madock - 2013-07-29 19:23

They can work hard as they like in the Western Cape. ANC already betrayed the coloured people back in 1998 which in turn they punished the ANC severely, they still licking their wounds.

      Chrono Man - 2013-07-29 20:40

Mr Mantashe, your 2014 campaign started directly after the previous elections! Your campaign has been a MISERABLE failure so far and no further campaigning until 2014 can erase what you have already done and failed to do.

      Michael Kleber - 2013-07-30 07:36

Mantashe instead of trying to convince the people through an election mode to keep the ANC in power , if Gauteng was just properly governed and things worked you would have no problem retaining power , but lets be honest Johannesburg is a mess and you cant blame the people for wanting the ANC out

  • Elmon Kgolane - 2013-07-29 18:13

Surely under Zuma"s administration u might loose that province

      *lose

      thozi - 2013-07-29 20:15

@Elmon: I believe it's easy to lose Gauteng under the current ANC misrule.

One can only wonder what makes him so confident...and I will leave it at that else my comment will be delete again.

  • AlbertBrenner - 2013-07-29 18:16

It could be a close call for the ANC in Gauteng. EFF ought to get about 5% and Agang about 8%. It will be facinating to see who will form coalitions against, or for, the ANC.

      Phumi Shange - 2013-07-29 18:59

Yeah ANC is forgetting that they will have to share votes with Agang and EFF...haaa, DA supporters will still be DA Supporters, ANC to lose votes to Agang and Malema's party...

      AlbertBrenner - 2013-07-29 19:33

@Phil Yes, I think you are right. Malema is an opportunist of the highest order. Meaning he will align himself with anybody who will give him the most power.

      Liam Kotze - 2013-07-29 19:34

EFF will rather swing for the DA..there is REAL hatered between Mal-ema and JZ..SARS nearly got all their money.

  • Mnr Willemse - 2013-07-29 18:20

"Tlokwe mayor Maphetle Maphetle was unseated" Remember this Mr Mantashe? The DA is gonna make massive inroads in Gauteng cause of eTolls amongst other reasons. The ANC members are feeling the pinch in "up for grabs" areas such as PE as well, and wanna jump ship. If the ANC wins, theres no reason why JHB metro cant fall to DA hands in 2 years from now. Gauteng is getting more and more diverse racially, as well as in its thinking and with AA benefitting blacks, they too are now asking why their rates and taxes are so high yet nothing gets fixed. U sir, sound like a scared fellow indeed. DA is gonna take Gauteng sooner or later

  • Lavisto Dogman Mavisto - 2013-07-29 18:25

Just forget about gauteng.it belongs to DA now!

  • Gary Doyle - 2013-07-29 18:26

They very worried, that's for sure. Just hope things stay free and fair when it comes to elections again. Looking at the fiasco in Potch it looks like the anc are losing sight of what a democracy is and might resort to unfavourable tactics to keep their corrupted power where they feel it's legitimately threatened.

  • Tiaan Laubscher - 2013-07-29 18:27

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2013-07-29 20:52

Lol the voters are not the News 24 commentators, I see a growth in support compared to previous years, the GS is saying it exactly like it is, not trying to please some people

  • Mohamed Feroz - 2013-07-29 18:51

I would not be so proud to say we are working hard in the Western Cape , if there is anything you should first learn to copy how they run the municipality here compared to the rest of the country ! I will Vote ANC the day every South African has clean running water , proper sanitation ,better education system , more job creation , a significant drop in crime, rape , murder , drugs , as well as ethical ministers and people in Goverment who are put and voted there by the people and for the people and take accountability ! That's the Goverment we all need to vote for , Not promises and lies every time election is around the corner ...

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2013-07-29 18:56

I will also vote the DA the day all those infomal dwellings are in capetown disappear, the day all people of khayelitsha and the farm workers are taken care of, the day they stop competing with the ANC on which one is offering the best bucket system,

      Clement Mokone - 2013-07-29 19:33

      You are dishonest

      Zulu Makhise - 2013-07-29 19:54

You are dreaming.. Most of the infrastructure you are enjoying now.. Was installed and MAINTAINED by your previous government.. Don't you forget that. Never in the history did you ever read of a major suburb (Alberton) having to endure a 3 day power outage!?..

      manqoba.zulu.54 - 2013-07-29 20:58

Zulu that Suburb before was the few that had infrastructure and electricity, the fact that now this government said a gogo in the deep rural area must share electricity with the urban people will result in disturbances and for that I blame the previous government not the current on, today there is running water, clinics and roads where these never existed, all built by this new government

      Carlo Rewan Booysen - 2013-07-30 11:42

@Manqoba, Then tell all the blacks to stop moving to cape town

  • Thamsanqa Ta Nkosi - 2013-07-29 18:52

regardless of being fedup with the ANC, there's still not other party to vote for as "AFRICAN"

      Tersia Louw - 2013-07-29 18:58

It's time for you to read a manifesto or two, Thamsanqa Ta Nkosi!

      Thamsanqa Ta Nkosi - 2013-07-29 19:06

In order for the DA to win they need black votes, i just can't see a black person in their right mind voting for DA despite being fedup with the ANC.

      Peejay MacLane - 2013-07-29 20:04

There's PAC, IFP, UDM, NFP, ACDP, AZAPO, FF, DA etc Do u want to vote for a party who's leaders spent R200mil building their private house and R900mil to the NGO they chair?

      Zakhele Nkosi - 2013-07-30 00:00

My middle name is Thamsanqa as well...and I guess you can figure out the rest! Having said that...I find your statement to be the most stupid and dumb as a dallard. Some of us blacks-unlike you, who have voted for the ANC over the years...are changing the formular for different results, like Einstein did! Ps..."I'm not related to this guy, jst a coinsidence" Wake up mr Nkosi you bring our name into shame!

  • CitizenOfSA - 2013-07-29 18:55

Yes, the ANC says they, "want to win convincingly, and...want to win everywhere." "They" forgot to add that their empty promises which they incompetent to fulfill, will be at the detriment of the country. True Mugabe Economics. Yes, absolute power corrupts a political party that was founded for the benefit of all SA citizens (rural and urban, irrespective of religion, natural colour of skin, educated or not privileged with education, etc...). The 4-year old ANC and its new militant ZANU-EFF party has no role in civilized society. Don't be fooled by a facade.

  • Grant Neill - 2013-07-29 18:55

He's probably right, but what a shame.. We might have had clean government for 5 whole years.

  • Ivan Matshaba - 2013-07-29 18:56

ANC has never been good on stating facts or keeping promises so keep dreaming Mr Gwede ur party is getting whats coming to it soon. BET ON THAT!!!

  • Phumi Shange - 2013-07-29 18:56

I hate it when Politicians use Youth and when they have gained what they wanted they dump them...This time they dumped a wrong person, Malema, pay back time! And I hope DA works really hard in Gauteng as well, the arrogant ANC is getting on my nerves.

      Tommy Van Staden - 2013-07-29 19:56

Dont vote anc then, vote DA to make the difference, it your action that counts to make change, the more people realise not to vote anc and vote Da then they can reap the reward of change. As nike says, Do it !

  • Lums Zindela - 2013-07-29 18:56

that's what you said about the Western Cape. i think it suits you just right to be the opposition. After all you have failed the people of SA

  • Anthony Cowen - 2013-07-29 18:59

I Love the DA in the sense be it Pink,Black,Yellow,White,we are all pulling together as one for the future of our country and children,ANC is one big shambles every one for themselves how much they can pinch how much they can belittle a person because of colour,DA one happy family!

  • Sam Bowker - 2013-07-29 19:03

The ANC may still have a chance in Gauteng if we're honest - never underestimate the ignorance of the South Africa voter. That said even if they are victorious it will probably be their last. It'll be interesting to see whether the South African public has become more conscious about whats really going on.

  • Bonaqua del Pero - 2013-07-29 19:05

gauteng will be governed by a coalition and the anc wont be part of it.they might as well also stop wasting their time with the western cape.they will closely win eastern cape but lose nelson mandela metro.northern cape will also be close...if cope,da and agang could come together, this election might just shock these arrogant buffoons at Luthuli

  • Amanda Matthews - 2013-07-29 20:36

Well looking at all the fatal mistakes the ANC have made in the past couple of years under Jacob Zuma I reckon that you have a very good chance of losing Gauteng come 2014. I will bet my bottom dollar that you are very worried Mantashe. Is that why Zuma has yet to sign the E Tolling into law??? mmmm...
