ANCYL backs Motlanthe for ANC president

2012-11-22 20:12

Pretoria - The ANC Youth League has nominated Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe as its preferred presidential candidate to lead the ANC.

"The Youth League has nominated comrade Kgalema Motlanthe to be the president of the ANC," African National Congress Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola said in Pretoria on Thursday. He said the nomination was unopposed.

The nomination was made during the ANCYL's national nominations meeting.

It was held in preparation for the ANC's 53rd national conference to be held in Mangaung in December.

The meeting was attended by members of the ANCYL's national executive committee and delegations from all provinces.

Yeah yeah! Then they stick a knife in his back when he doesn't do what they want! *ANYCL Fair-weather friends*

      dave.elmore.5 - 2012-11-22 20:39

There are no friends in politics, an important lesson that has still to be learnt by the majority of voterrs here, so whilst politics makes strange bedfellows, I can only support them not supporting Zuma

      dave.elmore.5 - 2012-11-22 21:27

Actually chop, it's vodka tonight, maybe you should try it some time, to might learn to chill

      willie.botha.9480 - 2012-11-22 21:52

@Dave. True, but that is what I do not get. It should be all about the people of SA and instead of focusing on each other the politicians should start focusing on people. But hey, who am I kidding. :-)

  • squeegee.pilot - 2012-11-22 20:21

Mmmm, now I'm not so sure... If they support him there must be something seriously wrong with him...

      godfrey.welman - 2012-11-22 20:51

No its a case of anyone BUT showerhead who gave them hell. Have you not notice JZ came to power on a anyone but Thabo ticket, lol..process of elimination.

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-11-22 20:52

LIndiwe what does Motlhanthe stand for? He sits on the fence all the time

      julie.vanniekerk.3 - 2012-11-23 11:43

It's because he supports Julius Malema!

  • sivuyilemadida.gqeke - 2012-11-22 20:24

    certain victory, future President. Asijiki.

  • theunis.bester.5 - 2012-11-22 20:26

Well this have been expected, considering the pedigree of the ANCYL, with a leader such as JM which have got an IQ of 27, nothing else could have been expected of them....

  • donovan.johnson.pentz - 2012-11-22 20:27

Let me be honest about this matter. The whole system is flawed. The ANC itself always appoints who they want to be president and later they just treat you like a dog. The first victim was Mbeki whom when they found out they didn't want him anymore, quickly got rid of him before his term even ended now you rushed to opt for Zuma who you now just wanna chuck out like someone who never mattered. The very same thing will be done to Motlanthe. Rather change the voting system such that people will vote for individuals and not the party because this system doesn't account for representative democracy. Motlanthe will become president but the fact of the matter is that he is not gonna be accountable to the masses but to the party because the party is the one that decides who should rule and who should not, as well as, who should go, even before the end of his term. Something must be done or we will see people opening their eyes with time to vote for a better party.

  • SNYPPA - 2012-11-22 20:42

Motlhanthe has more to gain by not accepting the nomination,i can bet with any1 that the man will not accept the nomination.ANCYL is going to learn a hard lesson abt politics*its dirty*,the presidency will be uncontested.

      herman.letlalo - 2012-11-23 02:22

I couldn't agree more, isn't it ironic though that the most unworthy leaders often get the posts uncontested? Motlanthe is nothing but a sheep with no opinion of his own. Unfortunately we will have zuma for a second term, how can the anc be so arrogant?

  • Tim - 2012-11-22 20:49

Motlanthe is a copy of Thabo Mbeki, probably even much worse. This time we'll have no diplomacy, instead of ''quiet diplomacy''.

  • thizatouch - 2012-11-22 20:53

and this is the same guy that crumpled under pressure as a deputy president when his own scandals came out..nice ANCYL, showing once again how stupid you guys are

  • mzuvumile.g.mnqanqeni - 2012-11-22 21:11

Young lions has spoken,South Africans let us rally behind future leaders of this country. Not corrupt Cosatu or SACP is gonna persuade youth from this position of supporting cde Mantlante ,clearly we are not changing. We quickly need to transform our parliament bcs of some redundant leadership there we are calling for young blood to take over from elders before we c lot of recycling of ideas taking place. Lamola for president, aren't they suppose to choose their president first before they go for the party president coz last I checked the ancyl was being run by a deputy.

  • ld.vanvuuren - 2012-11-22 21:29

OK. Here is a new nomination: I would like to propose Trevor Manual as President and Mamphele Ramphele as Vice. Let's forget party political associations and go for the good of the Country. Can anyone suggest better? I will concur to superior knowledge (as long as there is no political bias)

      talana.malherbe - 2012-11-22 22:58

      I would support that.

      Siboniso Mathe - 2012-11-22 23:08

      yes 100% to Trevor

      makau.sebete.9 - 2012-11-23 01:34

      I second this 1.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-23 11:23

Id van vuuren. Trevor is the wrong shade and Ramphele won't do politics. What a pity.

  • jeanpierre.dumont - 2012-11-22 21:31

Anything better than Zuma - and I mean anything.

      Tyrone Grobbelaar - 2012-11-22 23:35

  • andy.mku.9 - 2012-11-22 21:32

  • sipho.dube.92 - 2012-11-22 22:54

Not all that glitters is gold , the change we seek might not be the change we are hoping for.

      Simon Maabe - 2012-11-22 23:56

But at-least or maybe perhaps he won't apply for a bond in exchange of people's sufferings and emotions.

      talana.malherbe - 2012-11-23 07:01

Sipho and Simon you are both so right! SA is in trouble...

  • sibonelo.nyathikazi - 2012-11-22 23:00

Eh, moes change is certain if the deputy president of the ruling parties youth league says so.

  • michael.jackwood - 2012-11-23 06:04

Motlanthe and Zuma, agreed to fool everyone, especially the YL, Motlanthe wont accept nomination, he has a lot to loose if this camp dont win in Mangaung! Why would his risk his political career for Malema?

  • Isafad Sadamm - 2012-11-23 06:28

what I got from reading Kgalema biography is that he has nothing to lose really either way...he has served as president of the country and therefore gets benefits such as that of a president and secondly he will inherit the ANC in any case so why bother by causing a only Kgalema Knows if he can do this or not

  • lindani.zulu.714 - 2012-11-23 06:40

    Welcome back julius malema..

  • emmanuel.baloyi.75 - 2012-11-23 07:22

why do you backs Motlanthe...let him stand up for us...

  • Shaun Rademeyer - 2012-11-23 07:50

I like that saying " years of selfless struggles" If only our leaders of today could still be selfless and focus on the people.

  • bdanney - 2012-11-23 08:18

You would think this is a vote of confidence in Kgalema Motlanthe, but coming from the youth league, the same group that backed Zuma and are avid supporters of Juju the brainless if I was Kgalema Motlanthe I would decline their nomination.

  • jaburonnie.jabu - 2012-11-23 08:21

viva montlanthe viva phantsi ngo msholozi, we need change in south africa and kgalema will bring change cause we still waiting for 500 000 jobs from zuma

  • crystal.core.5 - 2012-11-23 10:56

Have we all forgotten who was responsible for putting this appalling man with 800 allegations and charges of fraud into the president's office in the first place? ANCYL and Motlanthe. They have both betrayed the trust of the South African people and neither deserve a second shot at that. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-23 11:13

Oh!wow!!!! What a relief, I actually thought they would nominate Minnie Mouse.
