ANCYL executive dissolved, ANC confirms

2013-03-18 13:15

Johannesburg - The ANC has dissolved the ANC Youth League's national executive committee, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe confirmed on Monday.

"[This is] as a consequence of its continued ill-disciplined behaviour that brought the organisation into disrepute on numerous occasions," Mantashe told reporters in Johannesburg.

"An interim team will be selected and put in place by the NWC [national working committee]."

The decision was taken at a three-day African National Congress national executive committee (NEC) meeting held in Irene, south of Pretoria, at the weekend.

Mantashe said the NEC had instructed that all processes be stopped immediately with regard to the pending provincial and regional conferences of the ANCYL.

Some were trying to rush these conferences so that leaders could be elected.

"We can't have a leadership that is instant," said Mantashe.

"There is a difference between filter coffee and instant coffee."

Finally the spineless ANC show some backbone. Good to know the tail no longer wags the dog!

      frederick.kaczynski - 2013-03-18 13:33

Great.. now that you've practiced taking action.. how about DISSOLVING THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT STEALING OUR TAX MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-03-18 13:35

Even as a declared opponent of the ANC I would like to congratulate them on a decision which on the surface seems to be logical and brave. However, the skeptic in me wonders what the real motivation could be... just wondering.

      Tsepo Mdlalose - 2013-03-18 13:43

It's just a show to get votes in the next election. We've all seen this move

Will not be surprised if JZ rewards the youth in KZN with positions in the ANCYL. They supported him all the way. Plus they always called for the dissolvement of the ANCYL.

      Hein Huyser - 2013-03-18 20:17

Stig, I agree and think it's time for a total all race inclusive youth movement. The under 25's of nowadays have nothing and no part in the past and need representation

    who cares

      squeegee.pilot - 2013-03-18 13:38

Everyone affected by the undisciplined and unruly behavior of these clowns - in other words the whole country that has been affected by negative international publicity which has led to the withdrawal of investments and the rise in costs across the board... So even you should care.

      Art Brigg - 2013-03-18 14:21

The problem is that the okes who (were) members of the youth league are still around and will probably still cause problems - the only difference being that the ANC can't be held directly responsible. Those "young cadres" will still be part of the ANC but will now be working underground - the disruptions just won't have a name to it - that was previously ANC(YL).

      glyn.morgan.96 - 2013-03-18 15:27

About time that you cared!! I suppose that you are one of those people who did not vote DA because you did not "like Tony Leon's voice"?? You will change the world for "not caring", YOU will let the anc in for another term!! Time to care! Time to vote DA!

  • jeremy thorpe - 2013-03-18 13:23

First sensible thing the ANC leadership has done in a while. Good for them! Hopefully the ANCYL leadership will be re-formed with a mandate to focus on genuine youth matters like education and job creation. Oh, and by the way Gwede, filter coffee is for grownups. The youth can manage quite well on instant coffee!

the heavy hand at play again silencing yet more, at times, dissenting opinion. the elite march on, secrecy bill to follow, zoomer spy tapes buried, viva dictatorship, viva one-party state, viva disaster.

      Ganon Difference Nhubunga - 2013-03-18 13:35

Insulting your elders and mismanagement has got nothing with dissenting voices in a house (ANC), they were just people who did not understand their role as ANCYL. They were so rude, you can hardly call that different views, everyday insulting the ANC elders. Insulting is not dissenting opinion, acting like spoiled brats. B!oody agents!!

      Lucky Luke - 2013-03-18 13:36

don,t get me wrong, i disagree with a lot of what these punks do and did, dislike juju intensely but, i do not like the elimination of opposition in any form and this smacks of the disbanding of a sometimes critic of the elite. they will replace them with zoomer acolytes, "yes kids"!

      goyougoodthing - 2013-03-18 13:50

There is no reason to respect one's elders if they have proved to be morally bankrupt, stupid and lazy. Age, in this case, deserves no respect.

  • justsayingagain - 2013-03-18 13:25

It always amazes me that the ANC will always wait until the maximum possible damage has been inflicted to SA's global reputation, by any given crises, before it finally is seen to be proactive. Too little too late, as usual.

      glyn.morgan.96 - 2013-03-18 15:40

Spell anc in lower case, they do not deserve the honour of upper case spelling! Vote DA. Take the high road for a change. Viva la Change!

      Skhumba - 2013-03-18 14:31

ANCYL without leadership/NEC is same as it doesnt exist.....the interim structure will have to work hard to revive structures(Regions+Provinces) and organise a NGC to elect new leadership, to the irony is that the very same interim structure will be same people who will be standing in their respective Provinces, to advance to National Executive Committee.......Maile must lead the movement, that is if the age still allows him

  • Omar Hartley - 2013-03-18 13:53

And the whole country is laughing.. nearly 20 years, and they have absolutely NOTHING to show.. only corruption and murder, like the trash they are!

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters but always talked about having a son. They decided to try one last time for the son they always wanted. The wife got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy. The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new son. He was horrified at the ugliest child he had ever seen. He told his wife: 'There's no way I can be the father of this baby. Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered! Have you been fooling around behind my back?' The wife smiled sweetly and replied: 'No, not this time!'
