Motlanthe: ANCYL must avoid conflict with ANC

2012-02-10 22:11

Pretoria - The ANC Youth League needs to consider its relationship with its parent body, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said on Friday.

He said the league could take any decision or action, but any such decision or action should not be "in conflict with the ANC constitution or policies".

Motlanthe was addressing the league's three-day lekgotla in Pretoria.

He said where the league had ideas in conflict with the ANC, these should be submitted for debate.

It was to be expected that young people would be radical.

But Motlanthe warned that "young people must guard against being intoxicated by past victories".

I'm still trying to figure out how the "Youth" league leader could be allowed to preside over it into his 30s. Power mongers, the lot of them.

Nope... At 35 they are still childish....... And in high school grade 8.....

Hi Wouter... That maximum age of a youth movement bugged me for a long time and then I checked out the other 'major' players in SA politics and found they were no better. This is what I pulled off their sites again today: DA Youth is specifically directed to … “mobilizing people between the ages of 15 and 31”… IFP – “Youth development activities should primarily focus on those between 15 and 35 years of age”…. ANC - The ANC Youth League is open to all persons between the ages of 14 and 35… COPE Youth Movement – webpage doesn’t work… What bothers me more than the maximum age is the minimum age. What are children doing in political movements when they are not old enough to vote yet? What power can a 35-year-old wield over the malleable mind of a 14-year-old (21 years age difference!) So, in my opinion, the reason all the other political parties stay mum about the age of the ANCYL president is 'cos they have virtually the same age criteria. To misquote a well known song: "HEY! Youth leagues! Leave our kids alone."

Parents that do not have control over their children, will have a house in chaos. This is pretty much the picture here! Or is this a case of like farther like son. Parents should lead by example, but i guess this is the ANC's own fault, maai wat jy saai ANC! You created your own monster!

the ANC in crisis, they have let their ignorant kids go too far, now that they have final grown a spine & are starting to act in the interest of greater society, & not their own political skins, they have to try & fix 2 years of YL ill discipline & total lack of respect, in fact its more than that, its basically a plot to overthrow the ANC mother body, headed by Winnie Mandela. Her co-conspirators were Fakile Mbalula, Tokyo Sexwale & Mathew Phosa, with Malema (&the YL) as popularist mouthpiece & Matlanthe their preferred presidential candidate, they believe is sympathetic to their cause, which is basically using the poor the gain absolute power & wealth through dictatorship.

When Jacob Zuma was having legal problems he used the ANCYL to insult others and it was Jacob Zuma who usualy defended them by saying the youth are autonomous and that there is robust debate in the ANC.Now that the robust debate is uesd against the master, the rules must be changed. The youth should have been cherged when they insulted our judiciary and they should have been charged when they were insulting (kwezi}.they were saying everything wrong, but get defence from Jacob Zuma ,and now that they are fed up with prs Jacob Zumas presidency it clash with the ANC.Jacob Zuma caused all the misunderstanding and serious division within the tripartite alliance.

all the apples in the ANC barrel are now rotten,is this the democracy you dreamed of?.Jobs destroyed by YL utterences, communists running the country under the ANC banner and unions destroying what is left of industry with strikes and destruction, incompetent cadres in jobs they have no clue of managing and going down the corruption road untill it all collapses.Wake up you do have a vote !

The ANC must not divert reasonable ideals founded&based on physical situation of the people of South Africa &shift them as rubbish, we are waiting for the nationalisation of mines cause that was the promise made to us by the ANC on the freedom charter during the struggle years, instead of rubbishing everything from the youth an applause should be given to them for reminding the ANC of things that needs urgent attention like nationalisation of mines cause it is a promise made to South Africans&as for trying a leader for his utterances, the ANC has NEVER done that from it's ANCYL LEADER who were as violatile speakers e.g Peter Mokaba,Nelson Mandela,Mathews Phosa during Polokwane & the whole ANC current leadership for udermining the ANC before post Polokwane.
