ANCYL 'threatened' by Zuma's Nkandla comments

2012-11-16 15:53

Johannesburg - The Limpopo ANC Youth League is "psychologically threatened" by President Jacob Zuma's comments that he and his family had paid for his Nkandla residence.

"The ANCYL... is psychologically threatened by the responses and emotional outlook by President Zuma in Parliament, when he claimed to have taken out a bond to finance the Nkandla... development," provincial ANCYL spokesperson Klaas Mabunda said in a statement on Friday.

"We are making a humble plea to all branches of the ANC to wake up and start closely monitoring the utterances of President Zuma, because... we are convinced that his incapability to lead the ANC... will be exposed by the man himself."

Mabunda said the ANCYL was concerned over how much of the bond Zuma was paying back every month, because his salary was "public knowledge".

On Thursday a clearly upset Zuma said he was "aggrieved" by media reports that the government had paid more than R200m for his home.

"All the buildings and every room we use in that residence was built by ourselves as family, and not by government," he said, responding to a question in the National Assembly.

"On TV, they showed the house that I paid for. And they lie that it has been built by government. It has not been built by government."

Mabunda criticised SA Communist Party (SACP) general secretary Blade Nzimande after he backed the KZN SACP's call for a law protecting Zuma against insults.

"The South African Communist Party KwaZulu-Natal province went through steps of attempting to 'Zumafy' (sic) the country," Mabunda said.

Nzimande backed the call made by his party in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

"People can differ with me and you can insult me as you like, but disrespect, that is not acceptable," Nzimande, who also serves as the higher education and training minister, was quoted as saying by The Star.

"We are being undermined by whites."

Mabunda re-iterated the ANCYL's position to support deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe for ANC president at the party's elective conference in Mangaung in December.

I hope nephew is not going to use the lift! I doubt it could carry his weight. Of course the maths do not computebut we are not taking into account the fact that his wives probably contribute as much as he does. It is his country estate. Oh and why does he need a bunker when he is the leader of the majority? Who does he imagine is going to kill him? One doesn't need to actually get into the bunker to kill him when we have experts with explosives practising on ATM's etc all over the country.

  • shirley.steenkamp - 2012-11-16 16:18

  • JanGrimbeek - 2012-11-16 16:18

What the ancyl is trying to say is: "zuma dont lie, it is all the money that juju and the rest of limpopo made by stealing that was used to pay for your bantu-kraal, now you want to say you paid for it, it is actually our property cause we paid for it.. it belongs to the ancyl and more specifically juju and all his mates"

      luvo.luvos - 2012-11-16 16:30

And what is a bantu-kraal now Jantjie??

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-11-17 15:53

Luvo, it is an enclosure for people much like one has an enclosure for cattle or wild animals or whatever. However I believe we will soon be expected to refer to it only in the vaguest terms such as country retreat (US President Obama has one) and we all know that JZ thinks he is as important as Obama. Sadly we can only wish we had an Obama as leader. Of course we might also call it a boma!

  • tw2066 - 2012-11-16 16:32

  • christi.roestorff - 2012-11-16 16:41

Why did they not support the oppositions vote of no confidence then? Are they not aggrieved by exactly the same thing? I understand their doctrine and political objectives may not align but they both want to use the same ointment, for different reasons perhaps, but the fly needs to be removed regardless!

  • mzuvumile.g.mnqanqeni - 2012-11-16 16:43

Mzuvumile, if you are able to rape a women, like our president have done, you can also tell lies and steal without a moment of hesitance...

  • aiazmir - 2012-11-16 16:51

I think the public are being a bit harsh on our President. if he says he has raised a bond of R 200 million, we should all believe him because he has shown himself to be a credible. What we should be worrying about is how the banks would provided such a large bond to a man who has a guaranteed income for only the next 6 years, if he can make it past Mangaung. The monthly bond repayments would be in the region of R 460,000 per month. Now I have enough confidence in our President that he could comfortably be able to steal that amount every month. He is a very organised man, and can make things happen, which is the slogan for one of our large banks. Perhaps that is what inspired our President to apply for the bond.

      ellboyx - 2012-11-16 17:49

I don't member him saying he took 200 million but he says he build that house together with his family, so the bond may be less than 200 million

He cannot lead us as he is too self absorbed to remain in power and enrich himself and his family. He has no regard for the he ever going to produce the spy tapes. i think it time where the Ancyl need to respect zuma because if you could remember the former President Mr thabo mbeki uses the state money to build his money and mandela renovated his village there is asying in that say charity beings at home. i

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-11-17 16:09

Mfanafuthi: The problem with Zuma is that he has so many wives and concubines etc with children that he needs a whole townhouse complex to house them individually and while his extended family may have built the original houses the materials still cost money. One can buy mansions for R100 million in very select areas of Cape Town. This is because wealthy tourists will pay to buy a place like that due to exchange rates. Where Zuma has built is in the middle of nowhere and while he may not be thinking of selling anytime soon one never knows what the future may hold. For a Socialist he certainly exemplifies what socialism really is which is capitalism for the few who demand respect but are incapable of earning it through humanitarian deeds to their own countrymen. I don't see any of that going on do you? Lots of fat politicians in the ANC.
