Balindlela a political liability - ANC

2012-11-13 19:26

Johannesburg - The ANC's Jackson Mthembu on Tuesday said the DA had nothing to celebrate after ex-Eastern Cape premier Nosimo Balindlela joined its ranks.

DA leader Helen Zille announced earlier in the day that Balindlela has resigned her membership of the Congress of the People (Cope) and given up her seat in the National Assembly.

Mthembu said the ANC was dismayed at the DA's claim that Balindlela had been a member of the ANC's top council.

"Nosimo Balindlela has never been an NEC member of the ANC. The furthest that she rose in leadership terms was being a regional chairperson of the ANC," he said.

Mthembu said it was misleading to associate Balindlela with the ANC as she had been Cope member since 2008.

He added that it was widely known that known factor that Balindlela was the least effective premier in the Eastern Cape and had, for that reason, been recalled.

"If there is anything that the DA has netted, [it] is a political liability that will further alienate the party in the Eastern Cape.

Weeeeee sounds like serious sour grapes to me. What I would love is if Mamphela Ramphele and Moeletsi Mbeki throw their weight behind the DA. What would the ANC say then?

      brad.ken.18 - 2012-11-13 19:48

When I read it, I thought EXACTLY the same. Wait till others start trekking over! They'll also be liabilities! Bwahahahaha! Crumble, crumble, crumble!

      stefans.mkhawane - 2012-11-13 20:04

Sharon, u missing the point and just like the media you are bias. Nosimo was no longer a member of the ANC, as I said in my earlier comment when the story came up. She was a member of COPE and therefore do not see how will it hurt the ANC sinc Nosimo left the ANC three years ago. I also do not see how will it hurt the ANC in the Eastern Cape since she failed to do so when she defected to COPE. It is also true that under her leadership in the Estern Cape nothing was improved "refugees"continued to flock to the Western Cape. I believe she also has become a political refugee. Some on this column also mention Dr. Mamphele and Moeletsi Mbeki, these two are not members of the ANC as far as I know. They may have family members who has ties with the ANC but they have never been part of the ANC. Their move to the DA will have the least effect on the ANC.

      elgh.elgh - 2012-11-13 20:08

"Balindlela was the least effective premier in the Eastern Cape and had, for that reason, been recalled" Eish you going to have a busy day if you have to recall all the useless ones you have on payroll. Uhh that would be all of you.

      leonardo.newton.18 - 2012-11-13 20:12

Politics is a dirty game. its not guaranteed either, whether the two can lure all the so called ANC academics to move with them wherever they go...Just saying.

      mark.a.fysh - 2012-11-13 20:22

Poor old Jackson Mthembu is likely to experience quite a few "liabilities" in future; the main one being the present ANC administration, of which he is unluckily part of.

      Onke Mdingi - 2012-11-13 20:33

In as far as my memory serves me, most of these politicians have lost vision since the Mbeki era or my 'vision' is also blurred?

      clive.kihn - 2012-11-13 20:38

Sam, the problem with people like you is that you see transformation purely as a numbers game - your take on Gauntlett being a case in point. Merit and ability don't enter into it as far as you and your ilk are concerned. One day, when the ANC starts educating black people properly, all aspects of life - politics, business, sport - will reflect the demographics of the country. But the rate things are going, this will happen long after you and I have gone. And to call someone like Ramphele a failure is beyond incredible - it's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

      makgale.makgalemele - 2012-11-13 20:43

Sharon, these people do no care for anything. Losing one member means losing one vote, which is important in politics. Look what they are doing in Lens, you vote for them or not, boJackson do not mind because boMike,Stefans, Semeeeee an other voting sheep ( they wear yellow overalls along Rural potholed roads )who do not understand that SA is a ticking bomb ( ala Marikana ). Sharon let us just pray that we swell the ranks of DA or any other opposition party just to derail this Gravy Train. Poor Nosimo was surrounded by stary eyed hounds waiting to gnaw away bones left by boHolomisa and aother Bantustants Premiers ( compare old Umtata/Mafikeng/Lebowakgomo/Acornhoek and tell us if you still want to die ANC. Good decision Sisi Nosimo!

      clive.kihn - 2012-11-13 20:44

Oh, and one more thing, Sam: have you not heard that, at UCT, white kids are the newly-marginalised?

      sam.ntshangase - 2012-11-13 21:22

@Clive,atlist I'm more considerate to other previously marginalised grps coloreds/indians than you so sensitive to your fellow white.Transformation is a law in this country there is nothing racist about it

      fred.warren.986 - 2012-11-13 21:47

@sam Racial discrimination was legal under apartheid too - does that mean it wasn't racist either?

      sam.ntshangase - 2012-11-14 07:32

@Fred,racism was legal in SA but nt global, whereas transformation is global concept

      clive.kihn - 2012-11-14 07:35

Sam, thanx for responding. I have absolutely no problem with black/coloured/Indian people occupying the highest positions in business and govt, PROVIDED THEY ARE UP TO THE JOB. You, on the other hand, think they should be there on account of their skin colour, and if that's not racism, then I don't know what is. And I have never denied that "non-white" people suffered grievously during apartheid, and that things need to be put right (bearing in mind that you can't turn back the clock)somehow, but a numbers game is not the answer. And I say again, until this govt fixes education, blacks are going to remain economically marginalised for the foreseeable future.

      paul.makhudu1 - 2012-11-14 08:46

both of them are not ANC members! they can join whoever they see fit!

      nathan.g.moss - 2012-11-14 09:27

Sipho, the reason we talk ‘nonsense’ about the ANC is because of where they have brought us today. I don’t think the ANC could have raped the country anymore than they have.

      Msika - 2012-11-14 09:27

@sipho.mbambesa - you are so right, they brought us to the mess we find ourselves in today.

      silenta.solly - 2012-11-14 09:36

Its cold outside the ANC, dont worry Nosimo December is here, once we get Zuma out and Montlanthe in, you can return to the ANC. We know its cold out there for you and we know there is no place like home.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-11-14 10:49

Sipho. mambase. You are right. The ANC brought us to where we are today,,,,,,,,,,,,,,on our knees.

      justsayingagain - 2012-11-14 11:19

It might just happen. Here's to hoping..

      talana.malherbe - 2012-11-14 13:01

@sipho, and where exactly are you??? Toi-toiing because there is NO service delivery? Toi-toiing because you or your family still haven't received he free house they promised? Toi-toiing because your children go to sleep hungry or there is no proper medical care for them?? The list goes on... Your comment makes no sense.

      art5SA - 2012-11-13 21:38

Piss Cat Jackson HAD TO SAY THAT!!! He is well AWARE of the FACTIONS within the ANC!!!!! He is WELL AWARE of the CRUMBLING... You cannot expect him to agree with whats going down in the E/Cape... after all, it is one of the most BANKRUPT/CORRUPT/ MAFIOSI provinces in the country!!!! So is North West and Zimpopo Provinces! Only in South Africa, under ANC RULE!!!!

  • tw2066 - 2012-11-13 19:39

Haha hehe haaahaaa haaha. Hooooo Jackson Mtembooo ... Liability ..... Haha. The ANC IS THE LIABILITY.

      Montagnes.Bleues - 2012-11-13 21:19

Admittedly, my first instinct was to hear the Jackson Mthembu's empty echoes from the bottom of his bottle raving about disowning more than family/children and then put it all into place again - just ANC garbage!

  • lacrimose.wolf - 2012-11-13 19:44

Finally, an admission that the ANC was quite happy to keep a 'liability' employed for four years.

      sikhumbuzok - 2012-11-13 20:32

maybe u r an idiot! this new DA person left the ANC after being expelled as Premier of the EC in 2008. This is "loss" for COPE.

      Mike.ntsh2009 - 2012-11-13 20:56

@lacrimosewolf Balindlela has not been a member of ANC for four years already - she belonged to cope, same as DA members are no more members of AWB, Conservative Party, etc. because they defected from those parties years ago - ha-ha-ha-a. Truth hurts neh, watch as those defectors hit the thumbsdown button!

  • sam.ntshangase - 2012-11-13 19:44

Who can 4get death of toddlers in the ECape hospitals coveredup by this mom,the ANC made a good move to fire her, today DA is boasting about incompetent recruit

      neville.watson.94 - 2012-11-13 20:31

And so is the whole ANC incompetent they are very good stealing money from the poor

      sam.ntshangase - 2012-11-13 20:45

@sam, and what is happening today you call it any better than satanism? ANC is stealing from their own! From you! Think again!

  • Carlton - 2012-11-13 19:44

Hmmm, if memory serves me correct all those people who rejected Zuma were recalled, does the name Thabo Mbeki ring a bell.

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-14 05:17

WELL SAID!!!!I reiterate a posting I made earlier, on another debate. Nosimo is a DELIGHTFUL, articulate, dedicated, and hard working woman. She mourns the failure of the ANC and its founding mission, of 'equality for all'. A 'country lass', whom I met a while ago on her tiny farm in Stutterheim. She has a few cattle, and mainly grows potatoes which she shares with EVERYONE, and always has done so. She is loved by all, and in her time, despite the bigoted men, she fought enormous battles for the poor and homless. She raised the bar for tourism, and womans rights. She went into Bisho with a huge fanfare, and was met by a stubborn, corrupt 'mens-club' and bless, her relied heavily on certain parties, who assisted her through the mine field of finance. Mbeki adores her, and even he tried to assist her with the mess in the EC. I truly feel that she did not have time to make much of a difference, Zuma got in, and she was booted. I am thrilled that she has taken this giant step, JUMPING JEHOVA!!! at last. My only wish is that she is brave enought to actually take the 'mens-club' on with strength now, and kiss some a*s!!! YAY!!! Nosimo....start with the municipalities in the EC!!!!

      paul.makhudu1 - 2012-11-14 09:42

Mbeki had his political agenda that is why he did not like zuma and that is why he was recalled ask if you don't know.

      vuyisan - 2012-11-14 13:29

@Carlton: just to add to what you are saying: Mr Zuma have already made the threat that after Mangaung, there will be consequences

  • johannes.ramiki - 2012-11-13 19:45

  • hezekiel.lefopane - 2012-11-13 19:47

Nothing interesting about this move, is like buying off form playér because he played for barcelona FC.....well said MY ANC

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2012-11-13 19:58

Thing is hezekiel, ALL ANC politicians are "off form", I really don't mind which party they join, as long as they leave the ANC. Whether their new party is going to deploy them in a position of power remains to be seen. From what I know of this woman, she is as useless as the rest of them and I can't see the DA giving her any power at any time in the near future.

      paul.makhudu1 - 2012-11-14 09:07

And the same so-called ANC gave to old timers from DA employment as ambassadors(leon&gibson) have you ever heard opportunists like DA commenting about that? hypocrites!

      djmain1 - 2012-11-14 10:18

The cANCer only did that (sent DA members to other countries as ambassadors) because they knew they were competent and would be able representatives of SA there. The cANCer knew that they can get away with deploying inept cadres here but it wouldn't work over there. Simple really.

  • michael.jackwood - 2012-11-13 19:50

This is that lady who used to always wear Xhosa clothes, ey that was an embarassment of a premier, i cant remember anything good she left behind as a legacy in eastern cape, but she was no longer an ANC member, why is DA associating her with ANC?

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-14 05:22

@michael, why dont you leave your shack and go and visit her? You sit there and mouth off about a person whom you have never met, never helped and actually...are you afraid of her? She was an icon here in the Eastern Cape. It is people like you, who klets about a name without knowing the facts that taints our country.

  • goodguy.buthelezi - 2012-11-13 19:55

      beverly.young3 - 2012-11-14 05:27

She is not power hungry, I know her personally.....she actaully does know where she comes from. A simple elderly lady, a dignified committed worker, she made HUGE inroads into areas that she managed to oversee in her time in Bisho. Think before you write.

      paul.makhudu1 - 2012-11-14 09:21

when she was in the ANC she used to be critical of DA,then she went to cope she became critical of ANC now she is with DA who is she going to criticise! like you said she lacks direction and old age is playing with her mind! people tell you about Bisho what is so significant about it? she failed hands down as a premier in eastern cape!

But it was mistake for the DA to have declared a coup against the ANC, however the ANC must remember that it is losing support bit by bit. Come the next 2 election, the writing will be on the wall! They must just emancipate their BEE money and get rich quickly

  • theo.ferreira.58 - 2012-11-13 20:43

      vuyisan - 2012-11-14 13:42

@PointBlank: I ask myself, why did we have apartheid? I figure out(from our current white generation) that its because black people think they are entitled to everything, they are lazy, they are incapable of doing anything good, they never want to work for anything. I am surer you regret voting against apartheid

      vuyisan - 2012-11-14 13:51

that's where you wrong. why do you think we ever had apartheid in the first place? how can as a black person vote for people who believe you are incapable of doing anything good, who don't even respect that you have a right to vote for your choice, you voting for ANC because it is black, you are an animal, you are worse than an animal, you are lazy, you never want to work for anything. Yes the current ANC leadership has lost its direction and the country is doomed and probably will collapse even sooner than we think but at least we all go down that way rather than bringing back apartheid

I'm glad Nosimo did this maybe it will open minds of black people and realize that apartheid will never be active again in S.A and people can vote for who ever they think will make a difference coz we can't keep on making excuses by apartheid while our black gorvement is doing nothing for us , our black gorvement is failing dismal instead they making sure when they step down their pockets will be full, I hope young blacks can open their eyes coz our grand-mothers

Its funny how DA supporters call ANC members n leaders names, but as soon as they join their party, wow they sing in different tunes! Wonder if thats clever???

  • hitting.thefan - 2012-11-13 21:13

  • henk.tredoux.7 - 2012-11-13 21:13

Mr Mmthembu! I wonder what the greater democratic SA has inherited from the ANC? Not too bright are you now? How is your performance bonus coming along for the year?

  • amanda.matthews.14811 - 2012-11-13 21:28

@ morris n2. No its about waking up and doing good for our Country. We need more defectors from the ANC who are looking into their hearts and minds about what is right and what is wrong. Simple.

Come on man! A leopard never changes its spots....

She headed the EC AIDS Council during her tenure as MEC for DSRAC, guess how many hospitals were rolling out ARVs, less than 5 in the whole province. We always fought with her over that. Too much speaking and too little action characterises who she is. Similarly, her reign as Premier was marred with mal-administration, nepotism and tenderpreneurship, for which Athol Trollip used to critiscize her. She was a woman with a sweet tongue, but got nowhere with implementation. I say this as one of her former compatriots who were supporting Mbeki. She had no clue about running a department, let alone a province.
